Rooting/growth rate question...

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

If the cuttings I'm trying to root are from the bottom half of a trunk, how many years will it take to grow into a Y blooming tree?
I'm in south Ga zone 8, so I feel they can survive outside year round once mine become rooted. I'm hoping to plant these cuttings in the spring.

It usually happens the first year, and often withing the first 6 months.

Zowee! That's fast! I'm all excited about the possiblility of having blooms next year then! Thanks for replying.

You can leave them out. I am north of you and I leave mine out. I do however take cuttings every year just in case and root. I do mulch heavy. When I first started growing them for some reason I never had blooms until Sept. As they have gotten older they bloom in the summer on up until late fall. I haven't cut mine back as yet and they are still blooming and loaded with buds. Good luck.

Thank you for the info, Jim. Where are yours planted in your landscape? I've never seen them growing around heret; only in pictures. I've got about 10 sticks rooting in water. Just wandering what do with them after they root in water. Then my next dilemma is when and where's the best spot to plant them in my yard.

You will be so excited next year when your first brugs bloom. It's so much fun yet can be a lot of work too. Especially with the mites and worms hanging around from time to time. Can't wait to hear your excitement next summer. Good Luck with your cuttings.

Weel, Brugie, that right there tells me not to plant them next to my butterfly garden! Wouldn't want to spray soap on my bf cats. Yes, I'm already excited. Thanks to sharing DGers; most enablers I've ever met.

Yeah, I contribute my new brug addiction entirely to this site. :) It's a lot of fun though!!
