I'd have never guesses it in a million years, but the suggestion to root a Monstera in water worked. Thanks to those who have posted that solution several times here.
I had a monstera cutting I brought home from HI this year and planted it, and it never grew... in fact I thought it was dead. I dug it up in September after having it in soil for three months. But I figured I'd at least give it one last shot in water after reading that here. So I put the stem (which I noticed was still especially firm after all that time) into water. Sure enough, now four weeks after taking it out of soil and putting it in only water roots are starting to pop out from the stem. If all goes well it should root and now survive thanks to a suggestion here.
I may try this with some other cuttings I have as well, which I also instinctively tried to pot first. Looks like the water method is the best and fastest way to go.
So any idea when I need to repot this thing? It has one leaf (but it's really small). How long should the new roots get before I pot it up again?
Many thanks again. I didn't want to live with killing a plant I thought was impossible to kill, LOL.
Rooting Monstera's in water
Maybe 5-6" for the one I just repotted. Had three nodes. It had an aerial root when I took the cutting, and the new tiny leaf already on it. That's how I got it home. Had the leaf been larger I'd have had to cut it off too.
The other cuttings I have, which were taken from local Monstera's are about the same length, but are thicker. I am hoping they will root as well. I'll have to check them next weekend and see if they have any roots in the soil they are in. If not, I'll put them in water too.
Bump. Any tips on how long I should let the roots grow before potting this plant back up? Several additional root nodes came out shortly after the first. The first root is now a few cm long.
Thanks
