What to do with 15 Brugs in pots?

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

I confess. Dave's Garden members were an absolute
dream earlier this year when trading things for Brugs.

In brief, I have fifteen thigh-high Brugs in one gallon pots
and the cold weather will soon be here. Today is a fluke,
it's like a gorgeous spring day, so I figure I'd better do what
I need to do NOW.

Could someone please give me just a bit of help? There
is a lady in town who always has Brugs out front, in the
ground. As I have always been under the impression that
Brugs die if left outside (zone 7-ish) I assume she is either
replanting them each spring or do they come back from the
roots? We live down in a valley, so we have slightly warmer temps
than the city.

I feel silly asking this, but I am very appreciative of any help
or ideas you may have.

Should they be moved to a garage for the winter or planted and
covered? Or...?

Many thanks,
Karen Marie

You would be better off moving them to a garage, your zone would be iffy i think to survive the winter, you can let them go domant, and only water about once a month, as long as they don't freeze.

Perfect!

We have two storage rooms off our house that do not
have heat, but do not freeze, either. There are fluorescent
lights in the rooms, so I'll move them into this room today.

Many thanks!

Doris knows how to winter them over! She has tons of brugs in her zone. I would also take some small cuttings just to be safe and grow them in the house.

Two storage rooms that don't freeze? HOW LUCKY IS THAT!!! LOL I'm temped to use the neighbor's car that isn't running...LOL

I am in 7a and I never dig mine and they always come back. Of course it takes them a while to get any size coming from the roots because the ground has to warm enough to get them started. I just take cuttings of everything and overwinter and then if I lose something I have a new start. I do mulch heavy.

Oops I didn't see the "in pots"
I do overwinter some in pots in a utility room built on to our house. Probably the same conditions as a garage.

Oh my gosh!

Today I repotted all of the Brugs and brought them into the house.
I decided to sacrifice a shelf in my greenhouse, so now I have all
of the babies freshly repotted, watered and sitting in a wonderful
window with plenty of indirect light.

I can't get over how massive the root systems are on these things!
Some had grown out of the pots and into the ground, where I admit
to having only tended to them when I thought about them this summer.

Next summer (yeah, yeah) I will make an effort to take special
care of them all. Mark my words, I will see blooms!

Many thanks for all of your help.
