I am trying to root some brug cuttings in sphagum moss, and today I noticed that a couple had rotted. Does that mean I am keeping the moss too wet? Or too dry? The cuttings that had rotted were NOT from a very vigorous plant, so that may be the cause of the trouble.
Rooting brugs
It could mean any of these things, but in general once plants are becoming inactive (fall, going into winter) they're harder to root. It just goes against their natural cycle when they've become inactive. You could do everything right and still get some rot. Even if you get some that rot, you're bound to get some that make it. Keep trying! :-)

Yep!!! A friend told me that 50% success, was to be considered 100% success in the winter.

Judy,
I am getting roots on the cuttings you sent, as well as some I got from another DGer...at what point do I need to pot them up, what size pot and then what do I do with them till spring...lol..a lot of questions...but I have no clue..LOL
Thanks - this has been very helpful.
Janet, you can pot them up or leave them in water, when you do pot them start with small pot then got to larger pot as they grow, this seems to be the best method.

I just didn't know how quickly they will grow...the roots are just starting, so I also had been advised I can let them root for a while in a cooler location and wait to pot them like in March..have you done that as well? I would like to put them into the ground in the spring when it is safe for them to grow outside...
