Evening primrose - experience growing in NW

Brier, WA(Zone 8a)

Thank you for great information about growing evergreen huckleberry, i have found it and will plant in my garden.

One more plant that is of interest to me: Evening Primrose (Oenothera Biennis). I see that it's North America native, found east of the Rockies. What about NW? Somebody is growing?

Thanks

I have oenothera that self seeds in my garden but I wouldn't know if it is the biennis. It has a yellow bloom and gets rather leggy and can get large too.

Hi, Lenjo,
I am reading that oenothera biennis has spectacular blossoms open around the Fourth of July, one night for each flower, produces tiny edible seeds in the fall of their second year.

What conditions your oenothera grows under? Light? water? soil? Do you need to cut it back every fall?
What do you growing next to it?

I hate to tell you but I yank it out like a weed. It comes up in rather dry conditions under Doug fir trees.

But have you seen how it flowering? I am reading that this is a great picture to see how flowers open just in a munute when you are looking at the plant?

Flower is very pretty but very invasive here in Lebanon, OR...now I try to keep it OUT totally.
