Such a surprise I got!

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Good morning again!!!

I was checking my plants the other day and I forgot to mention that a plant that I believed to be Carnation Sprinkles has turned out to be Yukako!!! I am just beside myself because I was after that one at the fall sale and two people have it and the one I bought Carnation Sprinkles from was one of them. Anyway I was going to get one come Spring but I am so happy about this....there are two flower buds and they are showing green and purple!!!

The one lady said she paid 75.00 US!!!

Joanne is doing the happy dance!!! I will take a photo and upload it.

Oh, now you've got us all tapping our toes with impatience, waiting to see that bloom open up!

TFS!

Hey Joanne....so happy for you. Would you believe that Yukako (Japanese chimera) sold for over $500.00 at auction at the convention this year? Since more have come on the market, I have seen them sell on Ebay from 300.00 down to about 75.00.....

Yukako is our 6th prize in our current Bingo game in bloom with several more buds. It certainly is a unique chimera with it's green stripes.

I can't wait to see yours in bloom. Enjoy!

Here is a quote I copied and pasted from someone that attended the convention that I found on another forum.

" and the most stunning of all, a box of 6 Japanese chimeras, including the Yukako I mentioned earlier. I really wanted the Raspberry Halo Sport, but no way could bid as high as it went. Five of the Japanese chimeras went for $150 each and the Yukako went for $525/$575 (I can't remember). I was happy to see that AVSA got a lot of money from this auction,"

Morning!

Holy Cow!!!! Man that has to be a record! I saw one auction where it went for 227.50 I think it was but it is definitely coming down. Man it just never ceases to amaze me what people will pay for a plant!

In that case it went to a very good cause I agree!

I can't wait for it to open either....maybe it is a sport even...who knows....well we will just have to wait.. Maybe if I move it closer to the lights...LOL!

Thanks for the info Snowrose!

Jolly good shot, Joanne! It is a stunning and so-unusual chimera. I can't wait to see yours bloom!
Paying big bucks for a plant is suprising? Are you all kidding? We are more serious about these silly plants than we realise!
How, Joanne, did your serendipitous mixup come to be?

Hey Kenton!

Good to see ya!

Well I just bought what I thought from a local seller here in Calgary, to be a Carnation Sprinkles in the Spring and noticed it had a green and purple bud forming and I just knew what it was!

So one petal looks like it is opening up so maybe Monday or Tuesday it will open fully and then I will send another photo along.

I love it!!! Yes it is amazing what people will pay for a plant! This one cost me 7.00!

LOL!!!! That is true!!! One of the members in our local club paid 75.00 US this summer....so someone was looking out for me I would say.

Morning!

Well my Carnation Sprinkles isn't a Yukako but that is okay because I will get one in the Spring. Here is how much is open on it. It is definitely purple and green but the purple has a thin fantasy in it so I would classify this one as a sport.
