Is this darn plant ever going to bloom?

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

I've had her just about a year and it was a good size plantlet when I got it but shes never bloomed.I repoted it to a bigger size pot and still nothing.Shes taking up way to much room if shes not going to flower.

Oh we have all had some like her. Smaller pot is better. No need for larger pot until pot is full of roots. Try a bloom booster. And light is most important 12-16 hours a day. All three above should help :))

Jannich it's a good looking plant, I like the green veining on the leaves, who is it?

Beautiful plant though, and you've done a great job shaping it -- nice symmetrical rosette of leaves!

And... do I see E. 'Chocolate Soldier' budding in the background? Fun!!

Whats a bloom booster Allison? I give all the plants Eleanor's VF-11.And shes under lights about 12 hours a day.

Susan,Her name is Rebel's Crested Robin and shes beautiful but no flowers.

Thanks Jill.Yes that is Chocolate Soldier getting ready to flower.

Jan the plant looks awesome healthy and has been putting it's energy into growing. Did you get her from me as a small baby last year ? Lot's of baby plants will not bloom until they are a good 9-12 months or older.
She is a large grower and will grow to a good 20-24 inches a most fabulous African violet to own !
Lot's of growers , even Rob reccomends taking buds starting on young plants off giving the plant ability to grow to a healthy mature adult plant !
You want the roots to fit the pot. If not the plant roots will keep growing trying to fill the pot before blooming.
I can't tell how large the plant is but a plant 12 inches across a 4 inch pot is a good size. Azeala low pots are the best. Once the pot is full of roots or the plant gets 14-16 inches across then a 5 inch azeala pot is good. I sent you home with both size pots.
But yes she is a great large growing plant makes a great show plant too !
Rebel's Crested Robin (8692) 01/31/1998 (R. Bann) Single-semidouble bright red ruffled pansy/variable white edge. Dark green, plain, quilted, glossy, serrated/red back. Large
If she is a year or so older and her roots are filling the pot then you could try for a couple weeks a bloom booster ( not recommended to use all the time or on a baby or young plant or for long period of times)
A food that the first number nitrogen is low. and middle number is higher.
I like Dyna-Gro

Now if she is in the correct size pot, a year or more older, not growing threw a grwoing spout as she is a large growing plant, and you are giving her good light already ....the VF-11 is great she will be blooming in no time !
Or go ahead and try a bloom booster for a couple weeks only.
People use this for a few weeks before shows. Rob says he never has in the 30 years he has been showing.
But up to you.
It's a great plant and you've done a great job growing ! I feel it just is not old enough yet but will bloom soon :))
My two large plants I sold to local Av group friend she was over yesterday she said they are growing 24 plus each and she plans on showing them :))
She also brought a little Stinker I gave her a tiny sucker and it had grown 4x's the size and I made her three plants and got the 4 th. Yippee !
She also has owned the rare on the most wanted list ;Ness' Blue Ribbons (D. Ness) Chimera pale blue/wide vivid blue stripe. Dark green, wavy, scalloped. Standard
It has several suckers and I got a real small one hoping I can grow it out :)) She's not good at taking the suckers and separating plants so I did them for her. And she brought me a yellow blooming Christmas Cactus and some other cool stuff and I had three more Russian plants for her. I'm excited !

for blooming earlier, obviously the blooming habit of the plant is no. 1 - some bloom younger/smaller than others. But then there are some tricks, like keeping the pot small. A few others that are more difficult to prove:
- at lower temps, less light is required to bloom
- disturb the roots a little by knocking the pot against the shelf
- a short period of very slightly cooler and drier conditions

Good Sunday Morning!

I just measured the plant and shes 12 inches across, shes only in a 2.5 pot.
Allison this is one you sent to me,she was a large plantlet.Maybe its just not old enough.or maybe I should go up another size.I'm such a newbie.LOL.Gppd luch with your new baby!

Ki,I'm going to give her small knockon her bottom today:) Maybe move her to natural light?

Thanks for everyones help.

Oh, I think she should definitely go into a 4 inch pot, then! Don't overwater until the plant has had a chance to grow more roots, and you might also consider removing the outer ring of older leaves so the plant won't have to support them while it's growing more roots. It won't bloom immediately, but once those new roots start taking up nutrients from the new potting mix -- stand back!

I've got a bunch of little starter plants that I think need new pots, but just slightly larger ones... they aren't half as big as yours! Good growing!

sounds like what you need is patience, lol.

I'd opt for potting up slightly, and I wouldn't move it to natural light - the difference in conditions might set it back.

Yes you can go to a 3 or 4 inch pots go by roots size . She is still a young plant. Anytime you make a change potting, lights...
it can take your plant a good month or more to adjust so don't always expect flowers right away.
the 4 inches azeal pots are great ! After re-potting either don't water or water very light. I am back to using hot water.
I would not move it to natural light . Like Key mentioned it will set it back. Even after re-potting, water warm/hot water, try a bloom booster for a couple weeks if you want.
But give her as much light as you can 12-16 hours each day. Humidty and air circulation is important too.
She is young and a good size plant most likly she has been using her energy to grow. People raise show plants like this . It's good she is healthy. This plant will grow to a good 16 - 24 inches and when she does bloom watch out it will take your breath away ! You have done an excellent job growing a perfect beautiful plant . Give her time she will be blooming !

Why aren't my AV's blooming?

A: Light, fertilizer, and repotting can all encourage blooming. Refer to these threads:
