Hi, I have 2 plumerias that I got in the spring. They did well over the summer. I want to keep them and have them go dormant in my attic. Do I remove the soil and bare root them, or keep them in the pots they are in and store them that way? The attic gets pretty cold so I know they will go dormant up there.
Thanks
Maureen
Help, I've read the stickys and am still not sure??
Does it go below 50 F.? If it does it may be too cold.
I'm in zone 8b. I bring mine inside and I just hold back on water and all the
leaves will fall off. I water about everyother week and mine do well.
HI, thanks for responding. Yes, it definitely goes below 50 deg. Probably down to about 40's. I was afraid to bring them into the living room because I thought they might get those spider mites.

I keep mine on the steps to the tub and I've never had a problem. Someone just told me about Bayer. It feeds the plants, fights fungus and I think insects. I'll look it up tomorrow and let you know.
They have alot of people that know way more about them than I do. I just have 1 that I've had for years.

Jeri, I think the Bayer's All-in-One granules is a good miticide, but it smells really strong and really bad, and I'm not sure you would want that smell inside. I would just spray your leaves and stem with Safer's 3-in-1, which is a fungicide, miticide, and insecticide. It too smells pretty bad so I would spray outside and let it air dry and then bring your plant in. Murphy's Oil Soap, Horticultural Oil, Ultra Light Horticultural Oil, and any oil-based product will work on mites, but the key is to treat often to get the hatching eggs.
Maureen, the threads in the sticky illustrate what two of our members do. One member, Paula, keeps them bareroot in her cool garage. Some people keep them in containers, and some remove the soil. If your attic is damp at all, then that probably is not a good option. I've read members say that cool and dry but not totally dark is appropriate.

I sorta confuse here...
Why not keep them in the house??
The leaves will fall off anyways so a bug issue is really not a problem..
You can always spray them with rubbing alcohol or use ivory soap and olive oil on them to rid the critters if you get any...
I don't know if you will have a problem with bugs anyways considering how cold NY gets..
Plumies don't have a big bug issue..
Hi,
I used the Bonide's systemic, it only smells for a couple of days and takes care of mites, eggs, larvae, & bugs. I read that the Bayer's 3 in 1 can't be used inside.
Thanks yall,
I haven't used the Bayer yet and if it smells I'm glad. Like I said in 10 yrs I've never used anything and haven't had a problem here in Louisiana.
They also have excellent Bayer 3-1 soil-less mixed. Mixed 50 percent with perlite is great media for Plumeiras and all plants I grow !
Can the Bonide's systemic be used inside? Sorry if I asked that before....and where did you find it at? Thanks so much!!
All of Bayer's aka Advance Garden products work great IMHO!!

They don't stink too much either...
Systemics are not so effective in winter as the plumies are sleeping and not sucking things up in the soil :)
We love everything about the soil texture feel we use it for everything !
HI everyone, you all have been so helpful with this issue I had. I've decided that I'm going to go with what lopaka said. Since they don't have a big big issue and drop their leaves it shouldn't be a problem. I'm going to try to sneak 2 more plants into my office by my window (I already have 10 baby a/v's there) and hope the boss doesn't notice the sticks :-)
