Rosemary & Lavender as houseplants

Spring City, TN(Zone 7b)

I have recieved an order of 3 rosemary, 3 lavender, and 3 pink lavender plants. I'm putting 2 of each outside. But I want to keep 1 of each in the house because of the lovely aroma. I have a brightly lit cool bathroom for my succulents this winter. Any advice on potting these up and in what? Thanks! They will go in the ground next spring.

Mmmm, I can just imagine your whole house smelling of rosemary and lavender... my only thought to care - good, good drainage.

Definitely good drainage for both! I like to pot my rosemary in almost pure sand. The lavender can usually handle a bit more organic matter and doesn't need to drain quite as well. I use terra cotta pots (they can be plain or painted, so long as they're not sealed) because of how well they breathe. Both rosemary and lavender HATE wet feet and lavender in particular doesn't like a wet crown area either! I try to water these guys frequently but sparingly each time to ensure that they don't get too wet. Other than that, just make sure that they get into a brightly lit room, and they should be quite happy :-)

Yes, watering sparingly is good... I think overwatering is probably the most common problem with these plants. Rosemary can be prone to mildew indoors, so a little fan to move the air around in that bathroom might also be a good idea.
