Just wondering how many of you have greenhouses?
I have a small yard, so I don't really have much room for a greenhouse structure ... or maybe I do? What is the size of yours?
Or maybe I would do best creating an area in my garage to grow plants from seeds over the winter months?
I also read that some of you have already planted seeds in the ground and are just covering them over the winter months.
Any ideas or suggestions? I'd love to hear what all of you are doing. Since I've just gotten into gardening, this is a topic I know very little about. Growing plants from seeds is a whole new ballgame!
Winter sowing vs. Greenhouses?

If you live in FL do you really need a green house? Just wondering...I don't know a thing about the weather there...
I don't have a green house but wish I did. Our CC & R's won't allow any kind of shed or out building and my DH isn't keen on adding a greenhouse window or some such thing. I rely on Wintersowing here, friends with plants, and some shop lights in the basement.
If you get some shelves from Home Depot and some shop lights (the 4 feet for 12 dollars kind) and a timer you can set up a fairly decent seed sowing operation in your garage or basement, depending on the temperature....
Tabasco - We do get freezing temps during the winter months. It just doesn't stay that way for too long, just long enough to kill to the ground many plants. And most do come back in Spring! :-)
What I am interested in doing is growing seeds. So many have traded or been generous with their seeds here on DG, that I want to start germinating them now instead of waiting for Spring. It is still warm here (with an occassional cold snap), so I was thinking about some kind of small greenhouse to germinate seeds in during winter.

I am weighing the expense of shelves and lighting vs. a small portable greenhouse.

Hmmm ... maybe I will re-think growing them in my garage with shop lights. I was out there looking around and saw 3 large shelf racks that I have all my junk on. If I cleared them all off, I'd have 9 shelves! Perhaps I need to do some Fall cleaning and then use the racks for sowing seeds this winter. Now to find out more about shop lights, grow bulbs, and prices.
Anyone have a good link for prices for lighting?
