Bound for Mexico?

I've still got two Monarch chrysalides, from the last two cats I found. Meanwhile, I found a few Monarchs nectaring on some Frostweed growing in the dry creek that crosses the corner of my property. My Frostweed has been in pretty bad shape this year, so the blooms aren't very numerous out there. But the butterflies are taking turns on it.

I had several Queen's and Monarch's today. I was sure glad to see them! I've got several Frostweed plants and about half of them did good and the other half were horrible. There wasn't much in between. The horrid ones were taken over by lacebugs! gggrrr!! They are apparently attracted to the Frostweek like they are to lantana. It is so aggrevating because it took me a few years to find the Frostweed. I'm going to start spraying it early next year with insecticidal soap and try to keep the population down. Do you have lacebugs or another problem?

What do lacebugs look like?

Are we actually talking about lacewing bugs?

Linda, your butterfly is beautiful!

What does Frostweed look like? How big is it? Do you have a photo of it "head on"? I don't think I've ever seen it.

kkb, I suspect it may have been the grasshoppers and katydids. They were pretty bad this year. Also, the drought left the ones out there pretty dry. Frostweed is a native, can get fairly tall sometimes. UQT, check this out for moreinfo: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/62734/index.html
