whoops??? but... but... but we want to know about your trip to Calgary too! ;-)

Years ago on a family trip "out West," we ended up in Calgary for the Stampede... big fun!!

Morning!

Okay let's try this again.

Our trip was fantastic...it was a workshop on Gesneriads and what a wonderful fellow Winston that was the leader and his wife is the secretary. Anyhow there were Episcias, Sinningias, some names I can't pronounce and lots of give-a-ways. There was also special Streptocarpus species seedlings grown by Dale Martens that quite a few of us got and it is so new...it doesn't even have a name but the inside of the flower looks just like a crucifix inside! I am trying to find a picture and if the lady gives me permission I will share it. Mine is quite small so I am hoping it will be okay. I have everything domed so keep my fingers crossed that all will take.

But Winston's wife was such a nice lady....as we were getting cuttings or whatever, she was running around giving baggies and writing the names of the plants on them for us. Great team work!

Here is a list of what I brought home....all plants or cuttings:

Miniature Achimenes Cohana, The Martian (wasp) the backs of the leaves are so cool on this one, Kohleria 'Karl Lindberg,' Sky Gems, E. Heartland's Fleetiing God x E. Suomi (two different ones grown from seed) Blue Dragon, Smithiantha Little One, Rob's Scrumptious, and another Teeny Bopper (hopefully this one will bloom true)

I guess that is it. We had such a fantastic time...I was so hyped all the way home I don't think I shut up once! We just might go again next month weather permitting.

Have a terrific day everyone!

Joanne

Sounds to me like you had quite a fabulous day and so many great prizes ! Doesn't get any better. Please post some photos later as I would love to see what you got. I've grown episcia Suomi and Heartland's Fleeting Gold, but can't wait to see what the cross looks like and the blossom color.

I also like african violet 'The Martian" with it's bustled leaves and blue/purple wasp blossoms. The one I had grew in natural light and was in bloom most of the time. I say had because I gave it away thinking I had leaves down....but surprise! I just recently got another leaf and just put it down yesterday, so...I hope it does well and I will have this variety back again.

Teeny Bopper is sooo teeny tiny isn't it? What a little cutie! With winter right around the corner before we know it, it will be especially nice to have all our indoor plants to brighten up the day.

What a fabulous day you had! Too bad Calgary is so far from Maryland, LOL. ;-)

Snowrose, I can be a backup source for you with 'The Martin'... I don't currently have leaves down, but I do have a plant that's doing well. I've also got 'Royal Wasp', which I think is very similar but may bloom more often for me... I'll see how they compare as they mature. I did just put down a couple leaves of 'Merlot Trail', one that I think is just lovely with its variagated bustled foliage... can't wait until my little plant blooms!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Critter! Good to know I have a backup on The Martian. Does Royal wasp have bustled leaves too? Good luck on your Merlot Trail (Senk). He sure does hybridize some unusual ones doesn't he?

I most heartily agree about Calgary! Joanne got some very nice plants. Hey, Joanne....how about inviting us over for coffee !

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Wow! What a great day and a wonderful haul too. Ü Honestly, I think you may have to convert your whole house into a greenhouse soon! I really don't know where you put them all.

I too, wish I lived closer to Calgary to take advantage of such a great opportunity. WTG Girl!

Thanks everyone! I am still on a high from the meeting! It was so wonderful to share your passion with others who share it as well!

Does anyone have a picture of Sky Gems? It isn't in FC2...I found a description but I like to see the picture...the descriptions just don't do it for me.

Well now I have two Streps....that one I got as a gift and Mighty Mouse I think it is called...it is one of the few mini's.

I forgot I also won a door prize of a Violet Cup....it is a good size teacup with violets all around it and napkins with violets on them as well. Very lucky girl this round!

I am just fascinated with the wasps....I have about four or five now I think. I can hardly wait to see the blossoms!

Thanks again everyone!

Wonderful trip. You will love scrumtious. Very beautiful bloom and foliage. Large blooms for a miniature plant.

Morning Dawna!

Wow you come home with more than me...LOL!!!

I would like a slip of Kohleria"Peridots Kitlope" please and thank you.....I have been after that one for a while...was it one of the freebies Winston was giving away? If it was I missed it.

I guess you forgot all about that pretty pink Dandy Pot too didn't you?

Yes we sure did have a fantastic time and Dawna is a very good driver too!

TFS all your lovely plants....you are a very good mom!

Did you know that Lucky Pinwhell was one that Murna registered?

Lucky Pinwheel (9645) 02/23/2006 (M. Kosowan) Single-semidouble chimera fuchsia star/white stripe. Medium green, ovate, quilted, hairy. Standard

Wow! All I can say is lucky you on all the wonderful plants you got! 'Lucky Pinwheel' for sure! So happy for you guys and you are so right....it is great to have others to share your passion.

Kohleria 'Peridots Kitlope' has very good growing habits. Stays neat and compact and doesn't want to grow so tall and sprawl over. Seems as if any of the Canadian 'Peridots' line is very good. I have their sinningia 'Peridots Darth Vader' that I've grown from a leaf and is now in bud. I can't wait to see those magnificent blooms.

Looking forward to more photos from all your super plants. Thanks!

Congrats, Dawna. Great haul! You and Joanne are so lucky to have opportunity to find such lovely plants, so close. Love Lucky Pinwheel. Ü
