CLOSED: Tall Red Cannas

Guilford, CT(Zone 7a)

I have just dug my Cannas for winter storage, & I now have about three times as many Cannas as I could possibly need for next year's garden! I am hoping someone would like to add some to their own garden. They can be stored until next Spring, for us cold zone folks.
They are a red blossom, green leaf, about 4-8 feet in height. The hummingbirds adore them.
I would like to offer them for postage - I do not have any more room indoors for my plants. But I would consider hardy perennials, particularly shade plants.
The tubers are heavy - Check the postage at the USPS calculator site. ( my zip is 06437 ) I can send them regular mail too, as the tubers are now dormant. I would think the basic package would weigh around 6 pounds, but it really depends on how many you would like.
The Cannas are in the back of the photo ~

Julie - you'd probably do best to go with a flat rate box at $8.10.

I can hardly believe how much your garden has grown! (I remember when it was just a tiny li'l thaing!)

Are you all ripped out, dug up, and brung in??? I'm still lagging behind a bit. I got everything in, but now my yard is leaf central! So much work to do before everything is put to bed for the season.

Hope you are well!

These Cannas were the last to be dug up - I am stunned by the tuber size - & quantity! I think they doubled, perhaps tripled since I planted them in Springtime. The garden will have fewer Cannas next year, to make room for some other plants. They made a perfect backdrop for the garden ~
I don't even have any extra room in my garage for them - so take them away!

LOL! I hear ya! I grew most of mine in 2 gallon tubs this year and a couple of them multiplied so much they deformed the pots and I had to break them up to remove them! My boss will inherit a ton of them this year for his house in Rhode Island.

Hey, Julie - want some more???

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Just wanted to say, you are a special lady to be offering cannas for postage, there are many people who would just throw them away, versus trying to send them to new homes.

And other that simply haven't got the brains that God gave them and contimue to grow them from seed in addition to having them multiply like rabbits...

Guilford, CT(Zone 7a)

People throw them away? How sad - I have seen them priced pretty high at some places.
They are probably one of the best hummingbird attracting flowers as well. By late summer they hover around the Cannas for most of the day - very cool to watch.
Thanks Judy - you are welcome to some too, unless you are swamped as well :)
Sequee - So far a bunch of people are helping to take these Cannas off my hands - So I know they are wanted. Feel free to join in & offer some of yours too! I did not save any seeds this year - I tried the deadheading to see if that would produce more blossoms -it kind of worked, I guess.
I still have more Cannas left :)

onalaska, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks so much maybe i will be able to help you out next year with something you like. Your such a nice person. You should have my address i received some plants from you before. My address is in the address exchange. Thanks a million. Desiree

I'm so far behind in my trades that I don't dare take on anymore. I think I can give most of them away locally. Thanks for the offer, though!

Guilford, CT(Zone 7a)

Packages so far will go out on Monday. I have the flat rate boxes - I just did not get them packed up in time before the weekend. First thing on Monday :)

Guilford, CT(Zone 7a)

I packed them all up, & I have actually run out of Cannas!
Everyone so far is all set - Thanks to all for helping me to clear my cellar out. They will all be in Monday's mail :)

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

I too get tons of canna and found I can list them on freecycle to find new local homes for them. Even when I know I am going to be pruning things that will root but I don't have time to do, I will post a notice on freecycle for the cuttings and I will have a few people all come at the same time with buckets and water and follow me around as I trim. Great way to meet new folks also with a shared interest in gardening.
