O/T Cheap cell phone service

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I pay $60/mo for cell phone service w/ Cingular. $39 for 1 phone, $10 for addl phone and the rest fees/taxes (isn't that ridiculous???)

does anybody have a cheaper service that they are happy with. I only use the cell phone for emergencies--can't drive and talk at the same time, lol

thanks for your help.

PS: I know this is not gardening related, but if I were to call you on my cell phone and ask you about a TX plant, then it would be gardening related, right? lol

Charles has a Virgin Mobile pay-as-you-go phone. He buys his refill cards at Target when he is out and about, but it is also really easy to refill online. It costs as little as $14.99/month, depending on how many minutes you buy. He's been VERY happy with it.

I have a different pay-as-you-go phone that we got first and I don't like quite as well, so I won't bother telling you about that one. :-)

I use Sprint and have for years...I've been completely happy with their service. Only in my basement in Michigan did I not get service in the 5 years I've had my cell. I have a plan right now 1000 anytime/anywhere, free nights/wkends starting at 8 pm for $40 even! I can add a line for 20 bucks more. This is a newly changed plan for me so I am sure it's still good.

A friend has Cingular in the next neighborhood over and says he cannot even get service AT his house there...but can if he drives out to the main road leading out of the neighborhood.

Also, anytime I've had a discrepancy on my bill or plan and called Sprint they fixed is asap and I usually noticed a generous credit on my next statement! Plus I love that you can pay your bill by phone or internet...but am sure all offer this service.

Good luck in your search!

Marylyn, is $14.99 inclusive of all the taxes, fees, etc? Where did Charles go for the initial sign up? wow that would cut my phone expense in 1/2.

Tir, I have a nokia and I have good reception. DH has a samsung and it is pretty bad.

Yep, that includes all the taxes and whatnot cuz it's like a phone card. He bought the phone at.. Radio Shack? Target? Wait a minute, I'll call him and ask.

He's says Target, although everyone has them. Target runs sales on them quite regularly, though. You can see Virgin Mobile's plans here: http://www.virginmobileusa.com/rates/home.do He gets great coverage, too. We've taken that phone to Ohio, Maine, and California, and and he's been to various other states on his business trips and we have never had any trouble getting a signal.
