rylaff - Brugmansia In Your Pool???

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Did I dream it or did I actually read somewhere that you had an Angel's Trumpet in your garden pool??

I'm really interested in the details for wintering-over here in zone 7b!!

Judy, I do have a brug in the pond. It is in the top part, above the waterfall. The water line on the pot is slightly below the top of the pot. It did very well, stayed healthy, and never wilted as some do here. For the winter, I will lift it and put it in the garage to go dormant.

Please take a picture of it. The reason is there have been are all sorts of cautions on the Brug forum about root rot from over-watering, but I've found you can grow mushrooms and brugs in the same pot.. lol lol lol An accident I assure you but none the less it happens, so the over-watering caution always bothered me.

What do you think? If it is consistently over-watered, as yours and some of mine would be considered, that there isn't rot but if it is occasionally then that's bad. Or maybe it's just a winter happening or in the cooler zones in the spring and fall. Or just people needing to post something. I'm confused do you have any other experience to add.

Thanks,

In my personal experience, you cannot over water them when it's warm but you can sure watch them go mushy when it's cold!

Yeah rylaff, where's this picture??? LOL

I have a brug cutting that has taken all sorts of abuse, from no water for a few weeks to drowning, and it is still alive. I finally put it outside to get sprinklered and it was drowning. I didn't even notice until what had to be some 3 weeks. I finally put it in the ground and is happier still. As far as further north... I haven't a clue. Best of luck!

I have read that Brugs occur naturally beside streams and rivers so would be constantly moist to wet year-round.

Ohhhh Robert, interesting input. I pretty sure I'm about to knock the dirt off the roots of all of mine and winter-over in bubblers. I'm also going to cut some long branches and put them in water for the winter to see which blooms first.

I will take a pic of it. It is definately not suffering being in the water. It is in the top part of the pond so it has moving water continuously.

Judy~

I would never have thought of doing that! Hope you have success!

Keep us posted.

Robert.
