Was having a REALLY hard day today and called my dad. Told him that I didn't get the job I was hoping for and that I needed to drop the truck off for tons of work to be done on it. I asked him to meet me at the garage and drive me home after. On our way home I said "it's my anniversary today daddy....14 years". He is so proud of me it's unreal.
Anyways, I said "do you think that we can stop and see if Lowe's is open yet"? (they have been building one close to us but it hadn't opened yet. Well.....guess what? TODAY was their opening day! I was like a kid in the candy store. FIRST pick of ALL the new plants! Right away I saw some familiar faces and some I had never seen before. I picked up 2 plants and then asked the lady where the potting soil was (which was outside in the outside nursery). While dad and I were out there I saw this guy walk by on the phone and noticed his nametag said Tim. That made me think. I had applied for a job in their nursery over a week ago and never heard anything. The Operations Manager's name was Tim. When he hung up I said to him "Tim, my name is Kim and I applied over a week ago to work in your nursery here". I went on to tell him why I thought I would be a good candidate for the position and he said THEY WERE STILL INTERVIEWING! Can you imagine? MAYBE this is why I didn't get the "perfect" job I thought I wanted so badly.
Got to the register and dad said, put your credit card away Kimberly Ann (I know he's serious when he calls me that *lol*). I said, no dad, I want to buy my own plants. He says "can't I please buy them for you for your Anniversary, it would make me so happy". So of course....I let him as I WOULDN'T let him get me anything for my birthday 2 weeks ago. He was so happy just watching me sit there and pick off the "not so perfect leaves" and knowing how much those 2 plants brightened my day so much (actually it was spending just Me and Dad time that brightened my day but these did add to the memory together) and I will always be able to say....my dad got me these for me for my 14th Anniversary. They will always be special to me for that reason.
Here are the 2 babies I picked up to come home today.

I LOVE The Men In My Life!
THEN, last weekend my husband and I took a ride to Best Buy in NH (tax free) because hubby wanted a plasma TV.
4 1/2 hours later we FINALLY had made a decision *lol*.
While we were there I said...."do you mind if we stop at the Home Depot up here and see if they have any plants that our Home Depot doesn't carry?".
When we got in the store he said "sweetie, take your time since you were so patient at Best Buy and see if there is anything that catches your eye....I'm going to walk around and look for some speaker wire".
I was like.....OH YEAH!
Walked around....not much caught my eye. THEN all of a sudden I saw some BEAUTIFUL Adeniums. We NEVER have those at our Home Depot. So, I quick picked out the most beautiful one they had and stripped it of it's yellow leaves which left it looking PERFECT. Hubby hadn't come to get me yet....I was still free to roam.....I went around and around and around and THEN on the 3rd time around I saw a hanging plant which I hadn't noticed before. Walked over to it and low and behold, a Hoya Curtisii! We NEVER get those either....so quickly that hung on the side of my basket perfectly. I started thinking.....$13.00 EACH plant....that's a little steep...AND you need to get 3 different bags of soil amendments too? You better put one of these back.
Just then I saw this little old man come in and he had one of those "these plants look so sad" expressions on his face. So I said to him, "their plants are in very rough condition, I have already picked out the 2 nicest ones they have. But, here's my dilemma...I'm only keeping the Hoya so I plan to put the Adenium back." He says "my wife will kill me when I get home as she always says I don't need another plant". I said "I know EXACTLY what you're talking about that's why I'm going to put this Adenium back and only get the 1". I explained to him how to grow the Adenium and the requirements it needs and he said "I was planning to put whatever plant I bought today in a full sun spot that I have so that sounds like the PERFECT plant". I handed it over to him and said "well my friend, it's yours". He smiled from ear to ear and I left the nursery.
About 10 minutes later I went back to the nursery because I couldn't find hubby and the man was gone so I went around the nursery thinking that if he had put it back down that I would get it too *lol*. Low and behold it was no where to be found and I was SO HAPPY as we each got a new baby that day!
Here is my beautiful Curtisii to go along with my beautiful husband!

Kim,
Nice finds and to have these two very special moments. You are a doll. We are so blessed aren't we? I'm tired after working all night (ER RN) so your stories "hit" me today. Sounds like you have some special men in your life and then the little old guy in HD. My father is still alive and an old farmer and has mums and plants all in his front yard. Mom has probably rolled over and over in her grave over the years (been gone 22) and I'm sure some folks in his town thinks he's nuts but he just says they don't appreciate beauty. Or probably all of the hard work! It's beautiful in the fall and summer too.
Congrats on your anniversary. Enjoy your new plants and how special.
God bless,
Laura
Isn't love grand!?! Happy anniversary!
Dawn
Thank you Laura.
I laugh sometimes because I think "no one wants to read your stupid stories" but I write them anyways so it really makes my day that it brightened yours in some way.
The little man there was so precious and I know exactly how he was feeling looking for the "perfect" baby.
I cherish the men in my life and it sound like you cherish yours too.
What a great story about your dad. I LOVE gardeners so much.
While we were at Lowe's today....my dad was like....."Kimmie, you seem to really LOVE plants so much. I see the look in your eye when you admire each one. You know, we originated in a garden and a garden is a sign of life, love and God". My dad is a born again and VERY spiritual so I love it when he preaches to me.
Meanwhile, I'm going around and emptying out the pots of succulents that were WAAAAAY over watered and trying to explain to the boy in the department that plants with "rubber" like leaves store their water there and should not be sitting in that much water (like he cared right)?
It's a passion for me, a real addiction and I LOVE it.
MAYBE I will get a call from the whole experience with Tim today....that would be nice.
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my "story" and may God bless you and yours as richly as he has blessed me. For this I will always be grateful.
Kim
Funny I ran into this thread, Kim, I'm applying to our new Lowe's for the nursery job too. How funny! I've always wanted to work in a Nursery.
I hope you get the job and hope I can too!
edited to add: (I wouldn't have seen this thread had it not been for Dave's new addition to the homepage! At first I thought it cluttered my homepage up but now I'm rethinking that!)

Weegy, that would just be AWESOME for BOTH of us wouldn't it?
God works in mysterious ways and I have always believed that what I consider bad things (not getting the job) happen for good reasons (there must be something better).
Instead of saying...."things could be worse"....I always say "things will get better"....and the funny thing about that is.....they do.
You're in my prayers 2nite friend!
Kim
Kim,
Love the story about the men in your life, and know your new plants will be special. Hope you get the job - it sounds just perfect.
Sharon
Sharon,
I get behind this keyboard and think that I'm a writer all of a sudden *lol*
See why I need a job? *lol*
Thank you for your well wishes,
Kim
Kim...both stories....wonderful!
What a great week you've had, despite that bad day.
Will pray too, that you get that job!
(I'd love that, myself, but the nearest HD/Lowes is 70 or more miles away!)
Both your men sound like treasures!
Nice plants, too, BTW!
Kim,
See what you started:>).......................have a happy. Thanks.
Laura
Thanks Kim, you are too! Maybe in a few months we can exchange our Lowe's nursery stories!
Weegy, that would be TOOO awesome! Let's hope :)
The HD here in Maine "out sources" their nursery now :(
They do a VERY poor job too and certainly don't go often enough to check on the plants etc.
The HD employees don't take care of the plants AT ALL, not even to water them etc. It's all done by an outside company who comes by when they think of it :(
So So sad!
Kim
Happy anniversary Kim.
Beautiful hoya you have too.
Patti
Thank you so much Patti.
I tiptoe by that hoya for some reason as I'm afraid to do something wrong to it or something *lol*.
I have always admired those that were able to find that plant and NEVER thought I would see one up here in Maine.
Actually, we drove to NH so I had to go to NH to see one I guess *lol*.
Needless to say, we need to make 2 more trips to NH (one for the plasma TV which had to be ordered and will be in Thursday......already plotting away *lol*) and one more trip for the TV stand which also had to be ordered and will be in on 11/17. Oh how the mind is already spinning......I know I can fit ONE more in....somewhere.....think the kids will let me use their rooms? *lol*
Kim
Ah Kim...what a great, great story!!! You know I LOVE to hear your stories...keep em coming!! That hoya is Beau-ti-ful!! Very, very nice!! That dear ole man will think of you with happy thoughts whenever he sees his pretty plant!! What warm and fuzzies!!
Kim, luv your stories. I'm glad you have such wonderful men in your life that help you with your plant addiction. Both my parents have been gone for quite a while and plants would not be a thing that my Dad would have helped with. So keep having those father and daughter moments because when you can't have them anymore, you miss them.
Your treasures are awesome! I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for both you and weegy12!
:) Donna
