I feel almost guilty...

PLUS I'm going to be labeled an enabler again, but here everybody's pulling their tropicals in and mine are just getting happy again.

A few of the newbies...

First 847 about a month ago, in the heat.

Cajun Blue, which has been quiet all year but now is covered in buds... The color is tough to capture, very delicate.

Last one- Big Dipper, a really really full orange/gold double.

Plus lots of other buds on the other hibs all over the place, some of which haven't bloomed at all yet. Around August I start wondering why I live in this heat, but come fall it all comes back to me! :)

Can you all tell me how fast these grow, I'm looking at hiddenvalley 's 3 in pots, will they grow out fast?

That first one is awesome.

Kathy Ann, I bought liners last year for about $2 each and they all grew to bloom well for me before my Iowa summer was over. Some even came with buds on them.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Cool, brugie, that's an excellent price, you've got to share now , where did you get them? Did you get them at hidden valley? I have just recently ordered from two places. 5 quart pots at hidden valley and l2 I think liners at exotic hibiscus

LOL

Did I mess up paying 5.00 ea for mine. I'm excited about them coming in, i've heard folks say good things about the liners . So I have high hopes formine.

The only one I really wanted but didn't buy at either place cause they were sold out was that gators pride, that's an awesome hibiscus.

I got mine from a coop here at Daves, but the lady who had them must not be doing it anymore. They were really nice. I'd be happy to pay $5 for good liners. I take it yours came from Hidden Valley?

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

well, I couldn't find that hidden valley sold liners, I bought the 5 quart pots from them for 9.99 ea. and bought the liners from exotic hibiscus.com

folks have said great things about the liners though

Okay, thanks Kathy Ann. I'll go there now and at the least, get it bookmarked.

Now Tess, who would label YOU an enabler?????????? LOL

I have a Black Dragon opening and the deep fall color is a real WOW.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Tess you should feel guilty!! Showing all those beautiful blooms!! I have been off this forum to try and keep myself under control. I just wish it were spring now. I need black dragon & I need to add Cajun blue too.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

This is the best my camera will do with my Black Dragon. It doesn't even come close to the rich deep colors.
DH really is a D; he suggested we go out and look for a new camera today.

Sometimes it's just not the cameras fault, Mine is brand new and I can take picture after picture and it still doesn't take the true coloring of certain flowers . I hate that. your black dragon is beautiful

Wow..that is beautiful. I think I need to speak to my DH while he is sleeping. He might wake and come up with the idea himself then. LOL!

I was just outside picking snails and taking flower pics Tess, I was thinking all my hibiscus have slowed way down since it got cooler. I wonder if I am not fertilizing enough.

So what do you do with yours over winter? I always lose too many then.

All of yours are special but I sure want your Pride of Acadiana and Big Dipper. Oh heck, I'll take a few others too. LOL.

Oh spring, hurry and come back to me.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Kathy_Ann, I know what you mean; there are certain colors that will just not come true, like the blues. My camera however does not record any colors well and it is often pretty fuzzy also. I bought it a year ago August (online) and was first traveling and then pretty sick for a while. By the time I realized what a miserable camera it was it was too late to return it. It was a pretty good Olympus with 7.1 mp's, and the battery never runs out, I can take hundreds of pictures but they are mostly "deletes".

Kell,I wondered if I should still be fertilizing also. We have had some cool nights in the 40's so I think it is probably too late as I don't want to stimulate any growth but I was thinking perhaps of another dose of Messenger........

Frisco, TX(Zone 7b)

I have nine tropicals, and three braided trees. The trees are in terra cotta pots, and will come inside the day before the next freeze.

Of the nine, five of them are as tall as my wife (5-2) and are putting out ten to twenty flowers. It has been dry and hot and sunny in Texas and they seem to have been granted a reprieve here. Absolutely stunning.

In fact, I was planning to rip them out of the ground and put in peonies or something else (snapdragons, etc.) but can't seem to pull the trigger. Heck, let 'em run til they turn brown. It will make cleaning the beds less traumatic for me.

I'm gonna post a question about the trees in the pots elsewhere, as to how to care for them over the winter.

Cheers
W J
