Funny looking tree

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 9b)

I just got home from Spain this week and found a tree that I am hoping someone might be able to help me with. It was located in the shade, two of them. About 6' tall. They had an open weeping habit with one inch thick branches. The leaves are what got me, each leaf was about 1-2 inches but all curled up. It was beautiful. I've never seen a tree like that here in our area (Los Angeles)
If anybody has any idea what I'm taking about and could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it!!!
Thanks!!

Could you post an image of it ?
Could it be from the family of Salix ? What shape do the leaves have ?
Salix babylonica 'Crispa' has curled leaves. The tree has an open weeping habit like you describe.

The were a fresh lime green color

It sounds to me like a Robinia pseudoacacia cultivar, there is one which has frizzly leaves, my neighbour had one in a pot but it died. There is a cultivar 'Frisia' but the pics I see don't look frizzled.

Like Wallaby, I think it could possibly be Robinia Lace Lady? This is a pic of it growing in our garden. It has been planted for two years. I have seen other specimens in our area and they are about 15 feet high.

You were right bonitin, it is a Salix babylonica 'Crispa'. THANK YOU so much for your help.
I love this tree and I am having a difficult time trying to find it here..( los angeles area nurseries/growers) I am on the hunt.
ferrymead, thanks for your info....but what is the plant growing in the picture? It almost looks like a yellow leonotis ( lions tail ) I am facinated by Australian/New Zealand/ South African plants! I have a Banksia bloooming in the front yard right now.

MB24U,

Is it not possible to get you a cutting send of the tree ?
Salix is very easy to propagate by cuttings.

I found a nursery in the Netherlands that sells the tree.
Hope this link will work.

I am so happy. I found it on line at a nursery in the states somewhere. The guys at the local nursery said they may try and get a couple for me...
