A surprise frost is predicted for my area tonight from 4am to 7am, predicted lows 37 to 34 degrees. I've got a lot of my super tropicals in pots inside already.. taking break *pant pant* anyway.. I just don't have time or the strength at this moment to dig up my plumerias and they are too large to cover.. how much damage should I anticipate, if any to the main trunks?
Help!! Need immediate response
Well I managed to get them dug up and placed in the little shed until I can properly clean them up for winter storage.. ugh!! I hate, hate, hate this time of year.
Thanks for the info Dutchlady!
I see that I'm a little late. Looks like Hetty gave you good advice. Sorry about that darn frost warning, Trish! I was going to suggest socks for the tips. I think some people put socks on all their tips during light frosts and found it worked okay!
WOW Clare.. now that sounds like a great idea.. my neighbors already think I'm nuts.. so what's a few socks on my "branches" going to change that opinion.. really though, that is a great idea.
Another question.. since they are dug up.. I have a couple with inflos that were starting to form.. do you think they will manage to keep that tip dormant till I get them back into the ground say late March/April timeframe.
Trish, some people save empty papertowel rolls too for those single tips, slide them on, then put the socks on! LOL! As Hetty said, Christmas tree lights seem to help also.
It's hard to say about your inflo's, Trish. Some stay and some fall off, and I don't know why some hang on and some don't. If you really want to see those babies bloom, I would repot to a black plastic nursery type container with good potting soil and good drainage and put your pots out during the day during warm weather and bring them in at night before temps drop below 60. You can even put some supplemental light on them in the evening when they are in the house. It's a pain and a lot of work, but the inflo's should keep developing and bloom for you indoors, given enough heat and light.
Clare -- I just pruned mine. They had a rampant summer growth.
D'ya need any cuttings? I have enough to keep a fireplace warm all winter? (Or fill a backyard.)
: )
Fllyboy, you can send them my way! I'm always begging for more! LMK and I'll get postage off to you.
Flyboy I'd love to pay you postage fore a cutting or two also :))
Hey flyboy,
I'd also love to take some of those cuttings off your hands.
Happy to send postage, or a tropical plant trade, maybe??
lmk
Janet
Flyboy,
Me, too, if you have enough. I sent you a d-mail.
~Becky~
I bet flyboyFl doesn't make a statement like that again. LOL It does my heart good to be surrounded by people that are just as bad as me. I dig up sago's that are worth $100.00 size and nobody in my family or friends will even look at them. I just love DG

Flyboy,
Any cuttings left? Would love to send postage.
Sharon
No one could offer plumie cuttings in the spring???? My heat mat is full!!!
Brad is so wonderful and so generous. He's probably being overwhelmed with D-mails right now!
Brad, I would love any that you have left over. I need your address so I can send you that good-smelling one that I promised you. I can send you a couple of different colors if you have room. Send me a d-mail when you are not busy.
Brad, darlin', I just sent you a d-mail:-)
I just received the cuttings. WOW. So thick and sturdy. Several wonderful center cuts that I am sure will grow beautifully. Thank you so very much and I promise that if I ever have something to prune and won't be starting the cutting myself, DG'rs will get the first chance at receiving them just like Brad just did for me. (flyboyFL... is that your name?) Thank you so very much!!! What a wonderful DG'er!!!

Put Xmas lights on plants . If it is supposed to get cold , put a plastic trash bag over plant and plug in . Don't forget to remove bag next day - you could cook plant - the lights will keep chill out for a night or 2 . I buy mine for a buck at wallmart after Xmas - short 1 foot strings and the net ones for the orchids [ $2 or $3 after Xmas . ]
Trish, you could cut those leaf stems back even futher if you wish and just leave a little stem stump. You don't want too much bleeding happening, but I'm sure you know what's best. Sorry about the darn winter season! Tell them nighty-nite:-)
Tammie, I received my cuttings today also, and I am overwhelmed by Brad's generosity. He is truly a kind and generous person and one of my utmost favorite people here at Dave's. Thank you, Flyboy!
Flyboy - THANK YOU! Generosity is an understatement! I hope that I have an opportunity sometime to help you out! You are really one of a kind! Thanks so very much!!!!!
