Here are some of my gingers:-) I'm not sure of what any of the names are, other than the Butterfly ginger, as they got mixed up when I planted them, and they may have been misidentified originally, but I love them just the same. I seem to have two different types of Butterfly ginger as one type seems tall growing while the other type seems to be short growing.

Absolutely awesome! Great show! Thanks for sharing & making me drool some more!
:~)
Thanks, Smockette!
Beautiful blooms, Clare. I wish I could smell them though......
Thanks, Nat! They smell awesome! They are still going here, but they start to get a little ratty looking about now. They stayed green pretty much all winter and spring last year, but I think I will end up cutting the stalks to the ground this time. Many are falling over anyway and needed to be staked.
Yours are just gorgoeus Clare. My problem with the Hedychiums are they just take over. Spread way too much in just one year. We have huge plantings of them around here. I have one in my front bed I left in the gallon can on top of the dirt and it has about 10 stalks now so you know it has rooted thru the pot.
clare...these are really impressive. Are they difficult to grow and I'm wondering if this arizona weather is just too harsh...although I have taken a master gardener course I have a difficult time with plants but just love how exotic this ginger looks and am afraid this very brown thumb would kill it...:-(
Thanks, Kell. Yeah, I'm starting to see that takeover habit of theirs, but they are in a bed where they can't go very far, I think. I'll have to keep an eye on them. I have a rule about monsters taking over things. They don't last very long in my garden;-)
Hi Wineaux, to be honest, I really don't know much about growing them, but they seem to be really easy to grow. I would think they would require a lot of water and filtered sun or part shade where you are, but I think you would be able to grow them easily. There are some experts on this forum that I'm sure can help you with any questions including Dave Skinner, who has this awesome web site about gingers: http://www.gingersrus.com/
Thanks clare...an xclnt site.
We had a customer buy some to take to Saudi Arabia, so I'd say you should be able to give it a go :)
gingers are really very easy to grow. Planting in the right spot in good soil and proper lighting and water them and you're good to go. No need to go out and prune daily or anything like that. I love 'em.
