Miners Claim

Nice Variegation, but the flower isn't anything to write home about. I would have moved it on, but my husband likes it, so it's protected. Rumor has it that it doesn't root worth a darn either. Maybe I can substitute it with an easier care Brug like Jamie and he won't know the difference. Hmmmm.....

I have heard it is very tempermental too. Too bad! I also have not seen it around this summer for sale and the nursery who patented it are close by so I wonder if they are having problems with it too. It is sure is pretty enough.

Your husband is right it is very pretty. I just received a cutting of Jamie hope it makes it. Does anyone happen to have a picture of it in bloom?

Ive heard some people say that these growers are releasing these brugs too soon.....I know snowbanks gives me headaches every year......last year I had 2 stalks and now down to 1.I almost got a bloom but I had to drag it in the other day......lets see if it makes it through the winter....Judy

I purchased Miner's Claim from an internet nursery. It was about 8 in. tall when I received it. I planted it in the ground and have fertilized it several times. It has not grown at all. Now something evidentally attacked it this past week, as it does not have a leaf on it. Yours is very pretty. I love the foliage, and the flower is also pretty. If you don't want it, please toss it my way. LOL

Nice photo Mary. I like the pink with the varigated leaves but this one is a no go for me. I failed rooting it last year. I need easy not picky.

I bought mine last year (some time in the summer) as a decent sized plant. I potted it in a large pot to give it plenty of growing room. It dropped buds all summer, but most of my brugs do that. It's grown some, but really, really slowly. It's not too troublesome for me, so I'll keep it around. In my opinion, it's got the prettiest variegation when nice and healthy - but so many of the variegates available come with that same disclaimer. So far, Jaime (which is still kinda new to me) has proven the best overall in growth and health with Axelrose a close second. To my knowledge I have or have had all of the variegates commonly known in the US (Snowbank, Jaime, P&C, Maya, Suav. variegata, Axelrose). In a few months, it's gone from a tiny stick cutting to a three foot tall bushy plant which has now 'Y'd. I'll hopefully see blooms in a few weeks!

Hey Carter.. What makes your brugs drop buds? I'm wondering why mine do it.. I blame it on different things different times, but I'm just curious.

For me, it was the warm winds that came through earlier this week. I counted over 30 buds on the ground this week between Peanut and Daydreams. (Dang!) Anything extreme seems to make them drop. This hasn't been the best year for Brugs around here.

ZZ, I think it's a combination of heat and humidity. 100+ degrees and 3,010% humidity and nothing is happy.

Not a great bloomer for me either, stayed smallish but the variation is beautiful plus it was given to me by the guy that found the sport in the greenhouse where he worked and it was named after him so it stays.

Maybe it will be one of those brugs that takes two or three years to mature enough to bloom well. I hope she does a good job for you next year Mary. Gary sent me a rooted Jamie, so I'm crossing my fingers that I can get it through my Iowa winter.
