Gardening for Lola

Piedmont, SC(Zone 7b)

Hi Everyone,

I want to introduce you to my new family member Lola. My brother in-law found her trying to cross a busy highway. No tags or collar on her, just a rope around her neck. Apparently she has been abused and neglected. We took her to the vet because she was only using the bathroom once every 24-30 hrs. No accidents in the house but she would just not go!!! So, after xrays and urine samples and all that good stuff the vet has determined that Lola has a bunch of BB's along her rib cage and ears..so we know she has been shot, a very nasty ear infection, and a very large bladder! The vet is under the impression that whoever had her must of had her crated up and she was taught to only go to the bathroom once a day. That and the fact that she is very inactive and has no clue as to what a toy or a ball is. She also has a few scars on her , not sure what they are from. I have not heard her bark at all yet and she is very timid. The vet also said that it appeared that Lola had a litter of puppies recently. She is sooo very sweet!! I just don't know how people can be so cruel!

She seems to want to use the bathroom in my neighbors yard who has higher grass. Of course, I don't want her to do this but I want to encourage her to go to the bathroom whenever she wants. I will be putting a fence around my backyard within the next month. Until then I have to walk her. So, my question is....what plants or shrubs can I plant that will appeal to dogs? I don't think she likes everything being so open and right now I have nothing except some rose bushes back there. She doesn't mess with them because of the thorns I am sure. Any ideas?
