Milkweed - Asclepias Seeds?
Are you perchance doing a wild flower garden ?
with a Milk theme ?
lol, that's funny tazzy! But really Jeff, what exactly are you doing? Just trying to grow a variety? Do you grow any now?
There used to be a good site to buy different kinds, but it seems to be not there any more. Most of us have the more common milkweed sold at the nurseries.
Hi tazzy... I think I missed your message. And konkrete -
Well, I do grow some now... I have 5 different kinds already, and seeds of 3 or 4 news ones, I believe. I am trying to get as many Milkweeds as possible because I want to see which ones Monarchs prefer when they're all together, but also, I just think they all have good flowers that would add to the garden, and attract lots of butterflies. I guess the answer is... why not? :)
Thanks for writing,
God bless,
Jeff
All things are possible .
sounds like a fun garden
Are you growing these in pots? I'm wondering since you don't have as long of a growing season as we do here. I had plants come back in early spring, new plants growing all season, and now I have seedlings up again. Mine are all just Mexican Milkweed tho.
This is another thread with interesting article about using different milkweeds. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/662110/
Use the link then search milkweed and read the description. It might not make any difference for your area but it's interesting. It might warrant further investigation, maybe from somewhere like MonarchWatch.org
Hi konkrete
Some of the ones from Texas will grow here, too, without a problem. For the ones that won't, or that I'm not sure, I plan to dig them up and put them in a pot for winter and replant in spring.
Thanks for the link,
God bless,
Jeff
