Greetings! I am another newbie to Hoyas. I was lucky to pick these 2 hoyas up at the Local Home Depot. They have not had any Hoyas in my HD for over a year! I heard of the Mishaps of the Labels. Are these correct? I wanted to make sure.
I was so excited to find Hoyas. I checked the other Home Depots. I also double checked the tags to see if they matched up.
The dark green one on the Left is labeled: Hoya Tria Color Carnosa Variegata ( No variegata on those leaves)
The one on ther Right : Light Green) Hoya SULAWESSII Hoya Bella
The leaves are thin too, not thick like my Krimson Princess. Could someone Give me their Input with an I.D..
Thanks you -
New Hoyas - ID correct?
Holy Smoke...what are those people smoking????? The plant on the left looks like H. lacunosa ssp. pallidaflora and the one on the right is either H. brevialata or H. incurvula - looks like H. brevialata more to me. Nice finds!!!!
Hi Katrun,
Your hoya's are mislabeled, surprise, surprise..... The one tagged H. sulawesii could be a brevialata, or incurvula. Home Depot seems to sell alot of the brevialata, but I can never tell them apart. The H. tri color carnosa variegata looks like it could be H. lacunosa, which Home Depot sales alot as well. One should really wait until they bloom to get a proper ID.
Wonderful find Katrun. They are beautiful.

Yes those look to be the typical mislabeled Exotic Angel plants that are actually lacunosa and brevialata like everyone says.
Be carefull not to water those too much, and I would take the bottom saucer off until they dry out. The soil in those plants stays wet a LONG time.

I just bought a brevialata at Lowes a few weeks ago. I didn't water it because it was already plenty wet. I probably should have taken it out of the pot and removed the wet soil because it is beginning to rot.
and this is why I keep my receipts!!
Wow, this is pretty weird, Last night when I posted Carol your post was not there. Now it says that you posted befor I did. Pretty Strange.... O.K. now what is up with the ssp.pallidaflora ?
H. lacunosa ssp. pallidaflora (pale flower) is the H. lacunosa with the longish (more long than wide) dark shiny green leaves (some have specks or some have more specks than others). It was called pallidaflora because of the contrast with the leaves, the flowers look whiter (I suppose/have been told). The H. lacunosa with the shorter fatter, pubescent leaves is H. lacunosa ssp. lacunosa.
Hey There Everyone ! Thank u! Thank U! I knew I would get some answers! I hope to see a bloom and then I will look them up.
Susan- How are you doing down there? U are not too far from me- (Culpeper)- what a nice area! I will go and check out the Merrifield Gardens Thanks- Have not been there yet!
P.S . THey were really wet when I purchased them. I will take your advice and remove the bottom part of the pot to air out. Thanks Marcy
I always try to hit Merrifield Gardens at least once a month. Even if i don't end up buying anything, it is great to look at all their house plants. They have just about any family of plant that you're looking for. The location in Merrifield has only a walk thru path in their greenhouse. The one between Centreville and Fairfax is huge with shining floors and lots of light.

Ohh! I will have to make a trip and bring some money!
I almost purchased a variegated Hinu Rope over the weekend in Maryland . They have a Big Nusery that carries alot. It was $30.00 and I had just purchased the 2 from home depot. I am not quite sure what is considered High or a good price for Hoyas. Looking at the web site. I dont mind paying for a nice big plant.
Will these two plants get buds/Spurs when they are ready to bloom? How to you get the small start to bloom?
I still have not seen Hoya bloom.
Have you ever been to the Nusery up on 495? Gallows Road? I forgot the name of it. It looks like a nice size. Everytime I drive by , I am unable to stop.
