Stars ready to chill out

REGINA -- A filmmaker who is co-producing a movie with Charlize Theron has some sage advice for the Oscar-winner and other Hollywood types as they prepare to shoot in Saskatchewan.

Dress warm.

"I don't think they understand how cold it is going to get," said producer Rob Merilees.

Theron arrived in Regina more than two weeks ago and has been spotted at the Rolling Stones and Black Eyed Peas concerts in the city, and at Friday's football game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Montreal Alouettes.

Currently the production crew is scouting locations in Regina and Moose Jaw for the film Ferris Wheel.

Theron will have a lead role in front of the cameras, while her production company Denver and Delilah is co-producing the movie.

Shooting is expected to begin Nov. 3 and wrap up in mid-December.

Merilees, who helped produce the New Line Cinema romantic comedy Just Friends (2005), which was shot in Regina and Moose Jaw, said he knows all about how cold prairie winters can be and is preparing everyone for the upcoming shoot.

"We had some minus 50 days on the set shooting Just Friends," Merilees said. "Oh boy, that was cold."

Other Hollywood stars joining Theron in Saskatchewan include Nick Stahl, who starred in The Thin Red Line (1998), 12-year-old AnnaSophia Robb, who was one of the key characters in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, and Dennis Hopper.

Merilees explained Ferris Wheel as a drama about a dysfunctional family, and a bit of a road movie.

"(Theron's) a very hands on producer. She is not just an actor-producer she's a real producer, so she has been helping us put this together really quickly," said Merilees.

Merilees says Saskatchewan is a hit with the crew.

"I have even heard the comment this is really better than rainy Vancouver," he said.

Charlize Theron's crew were at the library checking it out as a possible shooting location this afternoon....I gave the location scout a tour :)

I didn't until I went looking for the article above Ginny (when I saw she was I thought of you ;).

re them using the library.........if they do decide on it thankfully it will be the theatre about 20 feet from our main entrance (same building but on a lower level). Two years ago another movie was shot in the rotunda of the old library (where the new library entrance is) and it was awful to work around. They always started shooting about an hour prior to our closing (they were supposed to wait 'til after) and it sure got a bit tense at times (patrons couldn't get in and staff weren't allowed to cross to lock the building up). Our head librarian won't allow movies to be filmed in that area anymore. ;)
