I was given 3 identical hoyas and thought they were just nice foliage plants for the first two years, until I moved them into a sunny window. I was astounded when the biggest one bloomed. I never even saw the bloom until after I smelled it. Now 2 of them bloom the smallest one has yet to bloom.
Do all your hoyas bloom or are some just nice greenery?
To Bloom or not to bloom, that is the question.
Beautiful photo Ah -
Yes...some bloom more easily than others...but eventually with the right conditions they all bloom. Isn't it beautiful!
Congrats, ah_hoya! That is a beautiful plant and bloom!!

I suspect it's more to do with the light more than anything else. I would say I appreciate the foliage of my hoyas but I do a happy little dance when I actually see peduncles, then wait with bated breath to see if they come out. Although I accept, with some impatience, that some like my publicalyx I will have to wait a few years to see blooms.... *sigh*.
Congratulations ah_hoya . Very pretty bloom.
Patti
Thanks for the compliments.
I think that was the second of only three blooms from my first bloomer in summer 2005.
This year I had about 15 blooms on two plants. There were a few VERY smelly days...:)
I'm expecting the third plant (the smallest) to bloom next year as well if it follows it's big sisters.
I'm thinking about getting different varieties although I don't have much more room.
Do any varieties bloom in the winter months? That would be nice.
ah_hoya...are you a sailor, by chance?
ah_hoya,
I noticed you said you were given 3 identical plants...I love hoyas but have trouble finding them around here BUT i do have 2 large hoya bellas, one i could part with for a trade if your intersted?
