Hello All.
Look at all the fruits on my Passiflora subpeltata! There are nearly 40 all told. I started this Passiflora from seed about five years ago and it just started blooming for me this summer. It's in a 10" clay pot and has produced well over 100 blooms so far.
It's my understanding that these fruits are not edible. Does anyone have any comments on that?

Wow!! Luv the picture of the fruit growing along the bench!

Yes dont eat the fruit from any whites ones some of the others are ok to eat i think the one you have is a very old hybrid that came from england in the late 1890s regards paul
All those fruit are just delightfully rediculous. Could you put that in PlantFiles if you have not already?
In my opinion of no humilty, Erick, they are indeed striking.
Eric, my pass. aurantia is covered with fruit too, it is self fertile and sets lots of seeds. The fruit though is not edible.

What a tease the plant is, if it makes such huge fruit and not be able to eat it.......sheesh!
:) Donna
Well, at least they look goluptious.
Your sample is enough to make anyone want to grow a passion vine just to see if it would fruit for them. Great pix! Definitely awesome enough to be part of PlantFiles.
So does the fruit have seeds? or are they just for looks,
They sure look good.
Hello All.
Thank you for the nice comments and the additional information about this plant. I haven't yet cut open one of the fruits, but I assume they are full of seeds. Would they be viable? I am just so pleased at how much the plant bloomed this summer. The fruits are a bonus!
Erick
if you have seeds to spare please put my name down. Thanks
Doris
Erick - That's awesome! Great pics as well! I haven't had any fruit on mine, lots of blooms tho. If you have spare seed please put my name down as well! Wow!

Hello All.
I cut open one of the older green fruits this evening. It contained about a dozen seeds, but they were obviously not fully developed yet. The oldest fruit is starting to turn yellow, so that may be my best chance for viable seeds. Our light indoors is so poor now, I can't imagine the rest of the fruit will ripen. But I could be wrong!
In reviewing the cut open fruit, I could clearly see the second "wall" described in the link that phicks shared. I didn't taste it, but it didn't smell very appetizing.
Doris and Sharon, I will be happy to share seeds with you if I get some.
budgielover, great pic! I have p. edulis flavacarpa and p. edulis 'Panama Red' that I started from seed and are now a few years old, but they haven't flowered yet. I'm hoping for it next year.
Erick
Thank you Eric.
Does anyone know how long it takes for p. edulis fruit to ripen. Mine are still green with no sign of ripening so far. It's been about 2 months since I first noticed them, maybe a bit less than that.
