Wiko - went for 51.00 on ebay last night

Lindenhurst, NY

I was busy bidding on Tipt (which I won) and saw some other av's this woman on ebay was selling. I liked a few of them, but wouldn't go over 15.00 for any.

Wiko went for 51.00. Can you believe it? Is it rare? Does anyone grow this one?

Wiko (9333) 04/09/2004 (F. Pilon)
I would not say RARE ? Not even Vintage or Chimeria hhmm.
You got a great buy Maureen on your win !
I have paid $53.00 for Vintage Trailing Chimera , and very high $$$ over $20.00 for Senk leaves, Rare, Wasp, Vintage leaves. Way back when can't do it anymore but have been able to share a lot of Vintage and rare plants with people !
BUT Wiko (9333) 04/09/2004 (F. Pilon) ?????
I don't understand the price for this plant ?
Wiko (9333) 04/09/2004 (F. Pilon) Double lavender and purple pansy/darker top petals, white edge. Variegated medium-dark green, cream and pink, quilted, hairy, serrated/red back. Semiminiature

F. Pilon does have nine beautiful plants registered. But I did not know they were rare ? But Rare is different to everyone and who wants it and how many out there to get.
Gosh Blue Dragon was going over $50.00 among hundreds of other Av's have sold over $350.00 each . Elemcat buys everything too there is never out bidding her if she really wants it.

Hybridizing plants and registering African violets deserves a hugh sucess a great joy and acompliment to not only the Hybridierzer but the growers or admieriers from shows and pictures of other for year to come !
There is a long process .
One of the regilations required to registere a new plant with AVSA is "
Plants or leaves of your plants must be available to the general public, either by gift or by sale, if you wish to register this plant. "
This gets the plant out and shared in the public too !
About a year and half ago I paid high $$$ and some were going even $40.00 for a set of leaves for these rare wasp. I think there was five different ones. They were (T. Moreno ) I bought all five sets and four gave me babies all I shared with many. She said they were going to be registered last year 2005 but have not yet. But there is so much into being able to register a plant.
It's very good to buy the Vintage and put leaves down and share them. AVSA likes to know which ones you are growing too !
Maureen have you gone to the wonderful AVSA web sight ! It has everything !

HI Violet_treasure - yes I was on their website last night. I was looking for the "most wanted" list. I didn't see it there. Do you know where this list can be found? Thanks for sharing this info with me, intersting and good that they make a registered plant available to buy.

Morning Maureen,

Here is info on registering a violet. I didn't realize that you could register a violet even if you were not the hybridizer just as long as you have the parentage or signed permission from the hybridizer you can register it in your name.

There are numerous Canadian Hybridizers and here is a link that has a list of them:

Hope this helps some.

Maureen fount the Vintage Violets - AVSA's Most Wanted link for you !
http://www.avsa.org/Library/VintageViolets.pdf

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I could not get the links above to open but there are many different steps in registering a plant and three generations of growing the plant out ! Mom plant does not count. There are different steps for registering a Sport than a plant you Hybridized yourself.
http://www.avsa.org/RegistrationInfo.htm
This link above give all the PLANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION for the PLANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION

The African Violet Society of America, Inc. (AVSA)
There are a lot of certain requirements must be met register a plant .
It's fun and interesting !
And yes number One Requiement is " You are the hybridizer of the plant or the discoverer of the sport (mutation) of a plant, or you have written permission from the hybridizer or his/her heirs."
But you must use the Hybridizer name in registration ~ Like for example Ethel Champion died before being able to register some of her plants. So Linda Rowe registered some for her but Ethel's name is on them as they are her plants !
*** When registery a Sport this is different you only need to know one parent name . But lot more to it. Read and have fun !
*** There is also a fun Sprot list and if you have a Sport AVSA would like you to check there to see if it has been registered already.
Another great thing you may always write AVSA and they will answer all questions too !
Now Nancy she is the Hybridizers of the Awesome Debon's (N. Braun) I think there are about 8 registered now ! And more in the furture. I know she is busy now but maybe she can tell us a little bit about it. She has also donated one of her plants or leaves for the Bingo game !

Another fun interesting link
http://www.avsa.org/Library/sports.htm
African Violet Sports
The following is a list of African violet sports that have been listed or registered since 1980.
If you have discovered a sport, look up the name of the original plant in the left column,
to see if the sport has been discovered and named by someone else
Then you would have to follow AVSA PLANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Great Links, Allison. Thanks for sharing.
