Overwintering brug

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I was planning on bringing it in and storing it on my unheated porch - I'll call it a zone7.LOL

It has had mites and still has a few, but I would prefer to not bring them in the house. What things could I do help this problem?

spray it good befor bringing it in, if it is big I would remove some of the larger leaves, they will drop anyway.

I've sprayed it a lot this summer. Maybe I'll just let the leaves drop and then collect them. I won't have other plants on that porch until April - so it should be mite free by then.

Hello Al.

I just recently brought all my potted Brugs in for the winter and now have them in the basement. Before I did, I sprayed them heavily with cold water several days in a row. Once inside, I removed most of the leaves (they will indeed fall off anyway, create a bit of a mess, and just offer more opportunities for bugs to hitch a ride indoors). I then sprayed the remaining leaves, and the stems, with water that contained a bit of both rubbing alcohol and dish soap. I'll do that once a week or so for awhile. I also added a teaspoon of Bonide systemic to the soil and then watered them lightly. I'm hoping this battle plan will keep the mites to a bare minimum - or even nonexistent - over the winter.

Good luck to you.

Eric I am with you, never too much spraying befor things get a chance to be bad, this year I purchased a new spray, sure would be wonderful if it works like it says, It is Malathion Plus, kills Aphids boxelder bugs, spider mites and a whole lot more, you use 2 tablspoons to a gal. of water, spray on top and under the leaves
