Plumeria 'Dark Secret'

This is the first introduction of a plumeria with deep purple foliage, from a Thai breeder. In full sun the leaves are nearly black, but they are not as dark in less light. We haven't seen the flowers yet but they are said to be pink. USDA Zones 10+

Pheitmeyer, it is lovely. Many of my seedlings look a lot like that. Seedlings can often have purple, brown, or bronze leaves, but they tend to grow out of it unfortunately. They do say that the seedlings with these colored leaves will have red, pink, or rainbow flowers; whereas, the seedlings with bright green leaves will probably be white. I have a few bronze ones about to bloom, and it should be fun to see what they look like. I have a good friend in Thailand, and he is an amazing hybridizer. Thailand is truly at the forefront of the plumeria world.

Runs out to check his seedlings Lol Paul

LOL, Paul! Don't throw out your super green seedlings though because I don't think they are guaranteed to be white! And, anyway, white ones make good grafting stock!

Lol checked they are all green

I have got to get a job!!! Is that for a growing plant or a cutting? That is some kind of varigation in those leaves and they would really show some pink here in West Texas... oh well, maybe it will be around and so popular that in a few years, I could actually afford one. LOL

LOL, did you happen to see the other variegated plumeria he had? it was nice too, but I just love that strawberry cream. Man what one could do if they had lots o money LOL

The prices will come down in time as they get to be more common. I'm afraid I paid $150 for this one. That was much too much money to pay, and I won't do that again.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Yes, the leaves are normal-sized. I got mine from Natural Selections when they were selling on eBay.

I keep forgetting to post one of my seedlings which has purple leaves, but I will for sure tomorrow.

Here is one of my seedlings with purple leaves like I promised. I wish the leaves stayed this way.

Robert, the purple-leaved above is Michael's seedlings? I was just wondering where Michael has been because I haven't seen him posting much. Seedlings can have some wonderful leaves, but unfortunately, they don't often stay that way as they get bigger. Kukiat has some amazing seedlings with beautiful leaves, and we are hoping that they will not change much if at all.

Gordon, don't worry. They will be more available here soon, I have a feeling. This is Kukiat's pic below. You did good because you saved a lot of money by not winning those auctions! LOL!
