Hi everyone!
Well I think I am back at least for a bit...been very busy with all my new plants I have purchased over the summer and got my stand all up and running but I am out of room again...LOL!
Still have a lot of transplanting to do from the leaves I got from Calgary..they weren't under the best lighting conditions so they should start to boost now with the new lights.
On my second Floralight stand I got these UltraGold lights and my gosh are they wonderful!!! They are expensive but they aren't supposed to diminish in the quality of light at all. These are fairly new and it looks just like those Ott lites that they have....makes the plants think they are getting like daylight inside! I sure hope they are as good as they are claimed to be.
Went to the Calgary, AB AV Sale at the end of September and of course couldn't come up empty handed! I have another stand on order so that is it now...no more!!!
Welcome to all the new faces!!!!
I hope that everyone is well and growing great violets!
Joanne
I am back!!!
Hey! Good to hear from you! Where are the pictures? Stands; lights; plants. Pictures, pictures, pictures!!
Hi Nan,
Oh okay...will try and get them tomorrow, I have to stay home all day as watering is overdue and the cable guy is coming. I will see if I can take a picture with the lights on but I think it might be too bright....they shut off automatically at 4 PM so I will try one then....I have everything domed on the second stand.
Thank you Nan!
Joanne
Good to see you again!
I'm potting up leaf babies here, too... A new stand sounds like a very good idea, LOL... Presently, I'm thinking some of these babies might have to go down to the basement light shelves, poor dears.
I need to dig my camera out for some pictures too... we're not exactly unpacked yet since we both got sick immediately after returning home, which at least beats being sick while actually on vacation, LOL. I did get good pictures with my camera even when the lights were on with -- in fact, the colors under the lights with no flash often came out better than flash photos of plants sitting on the table.
Can't wait to see all your new lovelies!
Hey Critter,
Thanks!
Sorry to hear you were sick...yes it beats being sick on vacation but still not a good thing. Cross fingers so far we have been okay....got some cold sores but no cold....I think I would rather have the cold though....hate cold sores.
I didn't know you moved either! Bigger and better? Oh I wish I had a basement...
I have never had a basement....ever!
Well the pictures are coming but they aren't the best of the stands.
Joanne
Hey Joanne,
Where in Calgary did you get your leaves? I am having an awful time trying to find a place here in Canada. I am taking it for granted you bought them from somewhere...lol...hope you did so you can tell me where.
Thanks, Lee Anne
Hey Lee Anne,
I will send you a dmail privately.
Joanne
The stand is wonderful. Love the dome lids. I raised babies this year under domes for the first time and they did great. It gave them the humidity they needed. I just planted some of them up into 4 inch pots. They are ready to bloom. It was a great experience.
I see all your plants and they look healthy and ready to go. Good job!
Look at you going to town. What is the large violet in the forground of the second picture>?
Hi Nan,
Yes those domes make all the difference....they are great for isolating and for humidity. I find these new bulbs burn warmer and I need to keep the vents open on top of the domes more now because of the excess humidity. The Episcia's just love it!
Thanks!
Joanne
Hi Nan,
That violet is called Mac's Rouge Rogue....I have 13 of the Mac series by George McDonald
Mac's Rouge Rouge (George McDonald) Semi-douoble, double bright red Variegated Tommy Lou dark green, plain Semi-miniature (User Database)
Joanne
Love it! I seem to do better with the larger plants than the minis so I keep my eye open for them. The follage looks beautiful. Would love to see it in bloom.
Glad to see you back, Joanne! Sounds like you have been mighty busy. Stands look great as do all your plants. Good Luck with all of them.
Don Ü
Love the cubes. Did you get them at the Container Store? Way to go with the bopper!
Where did you get those cool cubes?
Hi Nan,
I am not sure if that one has bloomed yet or not...will check and see if I have any photos and will send it if I do.
Here is Chimera Candy Stripes that did not bloom true...so sad!
Candy Stripes (9012) 03/14/2001 (D. Thompson) Single chimera hot pink sticktite ruffled pansy/white stripe. Medium green, plain, quilted, scalloped. Standard
The flowers are pretty just the same...the lady I bought it from in Ontario is going to replace it in the spring.
Joanne
Thank you so much!
You know I don't have a clue where I got those cubes but I bought a case of them when I bought them and they are really coming in handy now. I am sure I bought them in the US but my memory is not serving me these days...sorry.
If you would like some Don I can send some to you...just let me know...we don't have to worry about the weather sending them...LOL!
Joanne
I would love a couple, Joanne. Ü I'll send you a d-mail.
Don
Hi Don,
Okey dokey...
Joanne
Hi Joanne,Welcome back! : ) Your stands and plants all look wonderful as always. You have certainly been busy. All those lovely plants make my head spin.LOL Post more pics.I always love to see them.Oh my Emerald Love is quite the looker!! : ) Nancy
Gorgeous!
LOL, Nanna, I was going to ask her about the same one... I've got a little sucker of 'Mac's Stop Sign' that a friend gave me, and I can't wait to see it all grown up!
Oh, and... moved? No, we haven't moved... been here a little more than 5 years now. We were in NC for 2 1/2 weeks recently, and that's what the "unpacking" comment was about, all our beach gear (and camera in there somewhere).
Hi there,
I know this is an AV forum but I just had to share these photos....this one is a Nepenthes Rafflesiana...the pitcher is about 2.5 - 3 inches...it secretes a syrupy liquid and the ugly gnats or whatever are attracted to them and then they die!!!!
Here is a website with some info on it....very unique!
Joanne
Hi Critter,
Oh sorry, I misunderstood you. I have Mac's Stop Sign too...just got it...still in isolation.Do you have a description for it Critter? If not, I might.
Joanne
Hey Joanne,
Love your pics, you grow beautiful violets and plants !!! I have been nagging hubby for a lighted plant stand for a month now..I think he is starting to break down...lol
Okay this is the last one...I just got this today and it is called a Sarracenia Purpurea Venosa...it is so unique. I have it in a three inch pot in sphagnum moss. I use distilled water on it. The fellow I got it from said to put distilled water in the pitchers because I guess in nature they take in rain water and also drop the odd bug in the pitcher as well.
Generally speaking, Sarracenia purpurea subsp. venosa is one of the easiest
Sarracenia for home growers to cultivate

I have never heard of those UltraGold lights before. I am going to have to keep an eye out for them.
Welcome back.
Nancy B
Hi Nancy B!
Thank you very much.
I couldn't find anything on them either...I guess it is because they are still fairly new but I did get them from Floralight in Canada -that is who makes them.
Here is a website that talks a bit about them....

Sorry I meant to say in that link I sent...scroll down towards the bottom.
Joanne
I love your little pitcher plants!
Yes, I do have a description for 'Mac's Stop Sign' -- and better yet, I've seen it in person at the Violet Gallery... only resisted buying because I knew that BlueKat76 would have a leaf to share with me... and then she showed up with the plant and asked would I please remove this sucker for her, LOL, oh yes, I'd be quite pleased to remove it!
MAC'S STOP SIGN-(Mc Donald) Single red blossoms edged in white over variegated white and green foliage. Semiminiature.
Here's a link to the VG photo of the bloom if anybody is curious... http://www.violetgallery.com/html%20pics/minis/macsstopsign.html
Hi Critter,
Oh that is pretty! I didn't have a picture of it either so thank you for sending the link. Really appreciate it.
This is the description I have for it:
Mac's Stop Sign (G. McDonald) Single smoky-red pansy with thin white edge Variegated green and white Semiminiature (User Database)
Joanne
Emerald Love is wonderful.
Thanks for all the time in sending these pictures. They are all great!
Joanne, where did you get the dome lids and do they come w/ the trays? Thx
Hey Susan,
Oh that is Optimara Little Moonstone....she is a beauty and it is a very double flower and she just continues to bloom her little head off since I put her in that Dandy Pot in June....it hasn't quit blooming yet!
Optimara Little Moonstone (7352) 04/11/1990 (Holtkamp) Double white/blue-tinged center. Light green, cupped, hairy, ruffled. Miniature
Gardengirl, those domes I bought at Canadian Tire here in Canada....not sure where you would get them there....oh those green trays you can buy I am sure I have seen those higher domes wherever you buy them and I have seen them as high as 7 inches...these are 5 inches and they cost 6.00 here in Canada plus tax of course...LOL! No the trays didn't come with them but I can buy them here from a friend for like 1.00 a tray.

Thanks Joanne. I found some dome lids on Parks for about $20 each - choke!! I think mine will have to go "topless"!
