Electric blanket and cats

I'm thinking of buying my first electric blanket. But I have five cats, all of whom have their claws. Would the cats be safe around the electric blanket? Would the blanket be safe around the cats? I have 0-4 cats on the bed at night at any one time. If the bed is going to be that warm, I can probably figure on most or all of them being crowded on top of it.

Safe for all concerned? Or not?
