which Plumeria has the strongest fragrance?

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I would like to find something with a strong fragrance for my mother. She does not understand why I want to grow something that takes time and care. Especially when starting a cutting. If I can grow something that when it does bloom has a wonderful scent, I can win her over and provide a nice plant for around her pool. ( Motive... space in her greenhouse for the winter... and future dormancy storage space. ) Really, she loves things that bloom and it is rare to have something around here that really smells good too. I also love to surprise my mother and she loves plants.... just not the work starting them. She takes wonderful care of everything I give her.

Which would you all suggest and where might I find a couple of nice cuttings?

Tammie,

I highly recommend Florida Colors: http://www.floridacolors.com (800)527-8308. You can tell Luc and Carol that I sent you to them if you wish. I would call them with your order, and I would order grafts this time of year. The strongest best fragrances in my opinion are:

Celadine
Dwarf Deciduous
Singapore White
San Germain
Aztec Gold
Key West Pink
Kauka Wilder

Please see the FAQ sticky thread for more info. on fragrances as there is a list there that was compiled from a number of opinions. Fragrance is subjective so keep that in mind;-)

Thank you, I will give them a look. I am hoping to be able to afford more very soon.

I agree with Clare and if had to put them in any order i would say..
*Aztec Gold - Strong Peach Smell
*Vera Cruz Rose - Strong Rose Smell

and i like to add 2 local's which can compete with any variety..

*Cotton Candy - Strong Grape Syrup/Cotton Candy Smell
*Miami Magenta - Strong Strawberry Smell

Strawberry... how cool is that?! Does it make you hungry? I love strawberries as does my father. What type of grower is a "Miami Magenta"? Any pictures?

I just had a very interesting evening... I got to meet Mikhail Gorbachev, former President of the soviet Union. I did not get a picture of me with him because I was too busy doing them for my parents... got a decent picture of each of them with him. Now mom can put it with her US presidents pictures she has gotten over the years... my parents sure do get around and I am happy to say, they take me with them sometimes.

I was in the middle of replying to this post and suggesting Vera Cruz Rose as a very strong contender. Then my computer urped and I guess it never posted.... well, Lopaka beat me to it!
I would seriously consider Vera Cruz Rose for scent.
I have also recently acquired a Mexican variety from Florida Colors called 'Ucu' which is a buttery yellow with some pink in it, and it has a fantastic sweet scent, almost caramel-like.

Ah, yes, I forgot to mention Vera Cruz Rose. It's a winner for sure. My Grove Farm is opening today, and it smells great too.
