Wrong kind of milkweed?

Lodi, CA(Zone 9a)

I read that planting the South American or Mexican milkweeds if you live here in California is detrimental to the monarchs because they need the alkaloids from the California species of milkweed. Otherwise, they are subject to predation. I read this on the Las Pilitas Nursery website when you look up milkweed. If you live in Chicago or the midwest, it is okay to plant the South American or Mexican milkweeds. CHeck it out and see what's right for your area.

Mary, that's very interesting and useful info, especially for those in CA. It's very easy to forget that everyone is not where I am at when discussing gardening. We certainly don't want to defeat our own purpose by not having the right plants!

Here's that link: http://www.laspilitas.com/
