Looks like Colocasia antiquorum 'Illustris'--unless I'm missing something subtle.

I think the more sun they get they more "purple" they get. I had some in full sun this year and they were pretty dark. Be sure to admire my old satelite dish, also.. :)

I'm leaning toward Brian's theory.
Some are just darker than others.

I grew 5 pups from the same Mother plant roughly a foot apart.
All had different markings.
One VERY black two almost green and two normal.
Though one of the normals had a few patches of yellow variegation.
That one is getting special wintering.......lol

The potted plant started spring on the north side of my front porch.. it didn't seem to be growing so I moved it to the sun in back. It flourished there and the leaves seemed darker after I moved it....

Oh I agree AuntB in our zone the more sun the better.
In fact very few Aroids can't take it up here as long as there's enough water.
It's just that some varieties are darker or more patterned regardless of the light conditions.

Love that photo....and those ARE some of the darkest 'Illustris' I've seen.
NICE job!

Thanks, Ric. I like them dark but I like the lighter limeish green ones, too. I'll have to look for one that has more green next spring. I don't know why I like foliage plants so much. (of course I like colorful flowers, too).

Have you tried Xanthosoma maffafa aurea 'Lime Zinger'?

It definitely has that limish green and would go great w/ the 'Illustris'.

I do have that one, Ric. I love it. It has done well for me. It will be it's 3rd anniversary with me next spring. I do need to repot, I could move some pups over with the illustris! That would be very eye-catching... thx Ric.
