This is the only one to bloom through the heat wave we had in the summer, and now she's back for an encore. The smell is delightful at night. This one is going into the greenhouse in a few weeks.

Painted Lady. Fall blooms
I have heard such good things about Painted Lady, Mary! I love the name, I immediately think of the grand Victorians in SF.

So good to see what I have to look forward to next year from Painted Lady. She is so beautiful and a definite keeper, bugs or no bugs. My PL was the only brug. I did not have a mite problem with this summer perhaps because she was placed far away from the others, but I feel she didn't receive enough light to set bloom. She grew well, just didn't set any blooms.
Tussee
Mary, how long will you get blooms for? Do you have a definite winter like we do in Northern Ca.?
Tussee, you do need sun to set good blooms. The ones I have in shade hardly do anything for me. I had moved some from my dark porch to the sun at the end of the summer and they soon set tons of buds. I also notice a mature brug has such different flowers than a young brug.
Things will slow down, and our light frosts will stop them from blooming unless they have the protection of the greenhouse. We only get 1/2 dozen frosts a year. We didn't get any frost till December last year, I think. Last year I had mostly small plants but some bloomed lightly in the greenhouse. We have some very pleasant day time temps all year, but when the sun goes down it chills up. 5 miles west me doesn't even get frost. (Not fair!)

Gosh 5 miles to heaven. So sad!! You are colder than I am then. Funny, I thought you would be much hotter there. We had 1 early frost last year in November and than not another one. But we were almost drowned later on.
So Kin are you all put away for the winter? Must be so sad looking around at your your now.
Kell, that is how I feel about the difference between your climate and mine just a few miles away.
Ah yes, Patricia. I could not live over the hill, gets too hot and my fat would sizzle. And you do get more frosts. How many last year? But where you are is so much nicer. There is a price to pay for everything I guess!
