My very first buds!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I was out looking over my plants this weekend and found my very first brug buds on my 'Maya'. It was given to me as a cutting last fall. I am so excited....and am hoping that the weather cooperates so that I will get to see it bloom. There are 4 buds so far. Yippee!!!

Anticipation! It seems to take forever for the blooms to come out when you're watching!

Maya is a special brug, I just know you will love them!

I still do with any new plant that comes into bloom for the first few times, any time. brugs are so

I know how happy you must be and I so hope that it does not get too cold for them before they open. I think there will be time for them to show you their beauty.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Wow.. that is sooo cool.. congrats, your a good brug mommy!! My Maya has had so many issues I will not get blooms from her this year.. I'm lucky she is still alive. I'm happy for you!

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Kim,
I'm so happy for you! Your Maya looks so healthy. Can't wait to see those buds opened.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

What is the difference between Maya, and Snowbank.
I purchased one that they said they thought was Maya, but the leaves were small and very close together, I did get 2 blooms befor I had to bring it in, now I am not sure it will survive, since bringing it in it has dropped every leaf.
this is how she looked.

Congrats on your buds, Kim.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks everyone! The first 2 buds starting opening yesterday. I am so impatient...I keep checking them to see if they've come out any further...lol. I'll get pics as soon as the first is all the way open.

kareoke....can't really answer your question since I am a newbie at these and only have the Maya. My plant has been through a tough summer, some bug thought it was yummy and kept eating the leaves and of course we had a drought so it kept drooping on me. Apparently this one is a toughy! As for the leaf dropping, I think these like to go dormant in the winter so it may just be a natural reaction, but not sure.

I thought someone would post an answer to this one. All I know is there is a difference in the variegation. Snowbank has more of a white/green look where Maya is more yellow/gray/green. I've had them both and got rid of Snowbank. Maya was the better grower for me and blooms big flushes.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Thanks brugie, guess I will have to wait and see if she gets any leaves back, she is totaly bare right now

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Ooooh! I love the variegated leaves! I didn't know there was a brug that had those. But my knowledge about brugs is quite limited. I'm learning quickly, though!

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

It is always so exciting when you find your first buds. It does seem like it takes forever for them to open. It really doesn't matter what Brug it is either, My first was just an unnamed white suave, but I loved it & was so exctied when it bloomed I must have taken 100 pics of it at every stage, We have all been there at one time. Enjoy & congrats! Bj
PS I still have that white & it will always be somewhere in my yard just for sentimental reasons, plus she smells really nice!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I was meaning to take pics for you Doris of each of those leaves but forgot too. I will try later.

But I think yours is a Klerx Variegata Doris, from looking at those flowers you have on it. When I grew Klerx Variegata the leaves were smaller and somewhat puckered. Maya had much bigger ones that were smooth.

Kim, don't you love how your buds are striped. I think they are so neat.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

kell, never heard of a Klerx, the buds on mine were striped too

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It is also called Variegata Suaveolens I think, Doris and you can tell by your flower it looks like a suaveloens flower. I can't remember the calyx but I bet it is striped too.

Here is a picture of mine from way back when, I had a sport on it and I was just so excited.

After thinking about them, I am going to have to do some research to see if Klerx is the exact same as Variegata Suaveolens. They are very similar if not.

Now that is the picture of loveliness and health!

Here is a Maya leaf. Hard not to love. Though I notice with age, they get less variegated.

Yummy!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Well thank you so much, kbaumle! But it was always a struggle for mites just loved it.

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

You know, I had my Cherub outside all summer and never had a problem with mites. The white flies, however, just this fall latched onto it. I blew them all off before bringing it in, but a couple weeks later, they were back. I took it out again and blew them all off two days ago, and so far, so good.

I've only had spider mite problems with an ivy that I grew inside earlier this year. Once I saw them, I took it outside and sprayed for them. They never returned.

Kim...am I gonna be a grandma?? LOL!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Sad to say this, but just wait. LOL They are the bane of brug growing. Though I never had them till I started going brug nuts and had them all over. It was a calling card too hard for those pesky little things to pass on by. I understand white flies are terrible too as far as persistence.

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Kell, I sort of figured you were going to say that. It's kind of like me bragging that our kittens didn't shed.

(Kittens DON'T shed until they're about a year old... LOL )

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL! I didn't know that.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Nan....lol....yep! This is one of the cuttings you sent me last year. I'm counting 5 buds opening now, it's so hard to wait!

:) Kim

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

yeehaw!!! LOL!!
I know...seems to take absolutely forrrrrrrrrevvvvvverrrrrr!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok....finally they are opening! At first they are creamy with pale yellow, but then they mature to a nice golden peachy color. I am impressed with how many blooms there are on this little plant. Now I see how people get hooked on these plants....and I'm one of them!
