Kellifornia PINK! LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Here is one that bloomed early on in the plots this summer and I loved it. I cut it and brought it home and it is blooming again. As I recall it was very very dark early on and now it is still so PINK though not the real dark color I recall. I need to a search to see if I took a picture of it then. I remember I thought at the time WOW a total package; tendrils, flair and color.

The color goes all the way up. My camera is just not picking up its PINK color but it is a great bright, fresh PINK. It is so cold here, I am shocked it has such great color. I can't wait to see how it is next summer. I had this brug out of sight and tucked away and neglected. But thanks to its rich pink color, I caught a glimpse of PINK thru many other plants and went to investigate. I would have missed it had it not been such a great color.

This brug has such a flair to her skirt and such a youthful attitude. I almost called her Kellifornia Valley Girl. LOL I will wait till I see how PINK she is next year. Right now I think my yard has PINK fairy dust sprinkled over it and magical things have been blooming. LOL

Oh Kell, she's gorgeous!! What is her fragrance like? I'm strongly influenced by a Brug's fragrance.
Veronica

That's very pretty, especially with the color going up the corolla tube. A lot of pinks are missing that, and it's a very attractive feature.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Just beautiful Kell and I love that name lol

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I agree with Donna. I love the name and its just beautiful.

LOL Dick.

Thanks all. You guys are so always so nice. I really, really like this one and I am a tough one to get a huge thrill from a brug these days.

Veronica, you know I think it is a typical brug smell but I rarely check. I am not really into the usual brug smell. Though the other night Tom and I were going out to eat and as we walked out of the front gate the air was so perfumed we both went WOW! If I think of it I will go out tonight to check.

I was just out looking at it, the flowers are so much darker but they are not as fresh as they were so I didn't take any pictures. But my Solanum rantonnetii tree is in full glory. All summer this one gave me trouble but it finally is putting on a huge show.

I think 'Kellifornia PINK' is the perfect name for this gorgeous Brug!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I didn't realize until now the meaning of KELLifornia, lol. Du-uh. Is this one you hybridized? How long does it take to be official?

Nowra, NSW,, Australia(Zone 9b)

Extra superb Brug Kell, and I thought that was Solanum rantonettii in the first pic. Its such a good plant but it sort of came and went here, though I still propagate and sell a few.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi Elva. LOL! I still can't decide if Kellifornia is tackola or not. A good friend just emailed me the other night and told me he thinks it is terrible. So we shall see. Yes, this is one of mine. All the pieces fell together on this one. I need to make cutting fast before I kill it thuogh not too much to cut on esp if I get seedpods from these flowers. LOL. I will see how it does next year then name it for sure. If it is not so PINK, I am taking back my name. LOL

I didn't know you sold plants, Alistair. Solanum rantonettii is such a great plant. I have 4 big ones, one in each section of my yard. I use it for a big splash of color. It is so easy to grow and you can train it into all different shapes. I have one that is trained into big purple balls, another is trained into a lovely shaped small tree and 2 are a mess. LOL. Do you have a lot of phormiums? The bright colored ones are all over here now. They are so much fun. I just love the plants I see here from Australia. Oh and the Protea! I just bought a book from Australia on Protea. How could I forget my true love. LOL You are a lucky man!!

By any chance do you know which Leucadendron this is? I have been trying to ID it for awhile. THANKS

Kell, you have the flowerist yard I've ever seen. Just beautiful. I love your brug and the purple in the background makes a great shot.

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Kell , it is a great name for that brug!
Hope you have lots of seeds and some find thier way to texas !!!!!!

Elva

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

She is gorgeous Kell !! I sure understand why you are so excited about her.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks Linda! My yard is the kind you need to look at in small sections for there is no rhyme or reason to it. I have too small a yard and a need to great for it to ever really look good in the traditional sense. My husband tells me as I leave home for an outing, "Just say NO!!" LOL He really does. LOL. Anyway since I am realizing I will never get a meandering garden in this lifetime, I am starting to plan the one I will have in my after life.

Thanks Elva. You know the cross I made for you with that plain Jane brug you liked? One took. Though I may toss the brug before it matures. It is taking up too much space and to be honest, the mother is not such a special brug, it would be better to get seeds from another cross. If any of these take on this new brug, maybe this one's seeds would be better. I forget to look to see what I crossed Plain Jane with. I am on my way out for take out, no cooking tonight! I will check then.

Thanks Patricia! You are always so supportive!

Kell , dont throw my seeds out, send the whole thing here....

Elva

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Elva, it is a 6 or 7 foot standard. I looked and it is crossed with Ruthie. She could give Plain Jane great color and size but not real long tendrils. The DP crosses didn't take. If I were you I would jump at the Special PINK seeds which I crossed with all sorts of good Dads. Though I sitll do not know if any took.

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Kell you just talked me into it. I'll do the DP if they take.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Kell, I LOVE this one!!! She's so pretty, and so PINK!!! Do try to remember to smell it for us, I really, really like the ones that smell terrific. (Did anybody else just have a flashback of the old shampoo commercials........gee, your hair smells terrific!) My mom, sister and I go shopping every Saturday afternoon, and usually the very last thing that Tony says is 'NO PLANTS!' Sometimes he even calls me later to say it if he forgot! Do I listen? What do you think? LOL

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Kell, I like her "flair" and I think that is what sets her apart from other pinks I have seen.
What is the cross?
Yep, this is a keeper.
PS, I love Ruthie, she is my favorite. How has she done for you this year? (you might have mentioned before, but I haven't been able to read all of the posts.)

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Kell... well again a truely magnificent pink.. thick and strong... perfect wiskers for sure.. full color
Listen Dear...Tackola...phewey.... like in art .. you collect what you like... and the market/appreacition will come around to good sooner or later ... and if never ... you still have it and love it.. as far as tackola goes... every brug I've ever seen is so far over the too border .. too lovely..too pretty... to sweet... too big a flower... too large a plant.. too many blooms.. too fragerant.. when you get a truely over the top one... get it out of the garden there... make some room...call it too too for me..and send a hunk of it my way... if they weren't too too.... I'd not be too too crazy.. Love em... Gordon

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Kell, what a beauty! Another gorgeous pink to drool over! You're such a tease...lol!
:) Donna

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

OK Elva.

Hi Ronna! Long time no see. I hope you are doing great. Your Tony sounds like my Tom, both are sunk. LOL

Oh Jackie, Ruthie was so speactular this year. I have in the ground and she is about 12 ft tall and just a perfect standard. THANK YOU!! I now believe it takes at least 2 years for a seedling to mature and really show her true self. She got that much better! I have to run to a birthday party now (my DH is yelling at me) so I will find you a picture later!

LOL Gorgon, you have hit what brugs are all about and what attacts us all so much ..........they are too everything. LOL. We are all lovers of gaudy bloom! Thank you Gordon!

And thank you Donna. I agree, this one is hot. I am so hoping all the pollen takes!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)
