I bought my first brug about 2 weeks ago. Been trying to read up on it and how to best care for it in this hot florida heat. They say morining sun afternoon shade. But I think here in florida it would be too much. So for the last two weeks I've just kept it in a pot in part sun part shade. It seems I cant ever give it enough water and it seems when ever I move it , it doesnt like it.
Well finally I've planted it on the north side of the house. OHH did I mention my yard has no trees its all sun and im facing east. So the sun bakes the yard all day. I have one little spot on the North side I thought might be good because it recieves some sun but not all day. And still half way through the day the leaves start to wilt. I have to go out and give it some water.
Is it the heat or is it the amount of sun its receiving or not receiving ?
I have 5 more on the way so I need to figure this thing out. I've ordered cool blush versicolor apricot and a few more. Is there a diff in how you treat these or do you care for brugs all the same?
Will these plants survive here? Or am I waisting my time? Help
Tequila sunrise just got one zone 9a C florida Need guidance
Hi guardangirl! I am no expert but I'm in zone 9 also, Tampa. I have several brugs in the ground and a few smaller, younger ones in pots. The ones in the ground do much better. The only one that does well for me in full sun is frosty pink, all of the others couldn't take so much sun and were moved to filtered sun all day under large oaks and palms. Maybe you can keep them in pots and move them around to see where each does well before planting in spring? My white ones and doubles seem to need more shade than the others. I have several that wilt every afternoon in the heat but perk up after the sun sets even without extra watering. What ones did you get?
Hello silver, thanks for the advise.
The brugs I ordered are: Cool blush, Dr.Seuss, Jean Pasco, versicolor apricot or something like that....... LOL and the tequila sunrise.
I concur, some of them can handle the heat and straight sunshine.Just some, not all.
Move em around and watch their reactions. You need to keep a log, LOL
I have had to....welcome to the greatest addiction in the world
Wherever you put them if it is hot they require a LOT pf water, even here, in the summer where it is not as hot as where you are I must constantly water them, but you will still love them *S*
Welcome to the Brug Addiction!
I have a couple of brugs that no matter where I move them, they protest for a day or so.. like they pout, even if it's a better location! LOL Now that it's cooler, I let some of the potted ones get full sun all day. Even though I'm in CA, I can relate to that scortching heat.. Our mid day sun in the summer would melt anything. Good Luck... and if your a fragrance nut like I am.. You are in for a real treat with Tequila Sunrise.. the fragrance is absolutely entoxicating.. it will take the whole world away for a moment! Enjoy
Dig the hole where you want to put it .
Put a larger pot -[ I use M-T 5 gallon buckets - they have a handle for pulling back out ] , set the plant in larger pot .[ I put 2 bricks in larger pot to bring plant to right height ]
Watch it for a week or so .
This will show how it looks with other plants around it and wether it likes the spot .
