plastic covers for your plant stand to help the plants keep warm during the night or when the lights are off? I was looking a riding lawn mower covers wondering if they would work.
Has anyone ever used
I don't know about plastic covers keeping plants warm, but would help prevent cold drafts and help increase humidity. Would cool temps, no air flow and higher humidity help to promote mildew? Would clear plastic shower curtains work in what you have in mind?
i use them & it does help with keeping the heat inside.i use the plastic on a roll from walmart.

Please elaborate on plastic on a roll. What is it, Bonnie?
I've used those little zip-front plastic covered mini greenhouses with other plants (scented geranium cuttings, amaryllis, various houseplants), and they worked well. I think it might have been Allison who mentioned using something similar intially for AV leaves/plantlets but finding that the humidity and/or lack of circulation was too much for them. But I'm thinking that if you didn't leave it zipped up all the time or otherwise provided for a little air circulation, that would help a lot.
I was thinking about using the plastic sheets that are 20ft by 20ft. They are in the paint department of HD to cover furniture and floors when you paint.
I would like to hear more about plastic on a roll at wallmart.
I have the full blooming plants in the living room. There is a very large bay window that is only single pane and get very cold to the touch in the winter. I don't think they have large enough plastic to drape the window. That's probablly what I should do. That would stop the source of the cold and the plants would be fine.
Nanna, have you seen the thin plastic that they make for sealing windows in winter? It works like shrink wrap, sort of... you put it in place and use a hair dryer to seal the edges. It's a great way to stop drafts and insulate windows; we used it on the old windows at the townhouse. Light comes through just fine, but I'm not sure your view would be quite so picturesque through it.
I was just talking to Bill about the plastic. I don't know if they make it big enough for the window in the living room. it is HUGH. I think I will check that out tomorrow. Wish me luck.
Good luck! I seem to recall it comes on a roll with enough length for several regular windows... you might be able to run one length across the upper part of the window and use a second length for the lower half, overlapping slightly... Bill is handy; he will figure it out!
i bought it in the paint dept. at walmarts, they have several size rolls. works great.

my hubby put sheets light blankets around back and side of stans with lights on at night last winter to keep cool breeze off plants worked well here for us. Circlation is important winter time brings mildew and fungus , virus and more.
