More Pictures of Plumeria Blooms

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Here are a few more pics that I've taken today and within the past couple of days. So far, my plumies show no sign of slowing down.

This is an unknown that resembles 'Candy Stripe,' but the petals look to be a different shape than the typical 'Candy Stripe' cultivar. Five out of the six flowers have six petals each.

Here is 'Penang Peach,' a really great bloomer.

'Miami Rose' has a soft floral fragrance to me.

This seems to be the time of year for reds as many of my reds are starting to bloom. This is 'Duke.'

'Bali Hai Gold' is still blooming. To me, it has a fragrance much like freesia.

'Marion B.,' another great bloomer with a sweet fragrance.

'Pink Kiss.' The fragrance on this one smells a little like Osmanthus fragrans when the blooms first open.

Last one for today, 'Intense Rainbow.' This one has hardly any fragrance to my nose, and the hues definitely change with heat.

Thanks, Dete! AccuWeather.com says it got down to 50 last night and the low tonight is expected to be 53. It's been pretty chilly here. The ones with inflo's are against the house and get the added warmth from the aluminum siding, and the overhang traps the heat as well so I think it is warmer there.

I only had 1 plumeria that I have had for 15 years. I bought a stick at the French Market in NO. I went to the casino here in BR yesterday after a class I had to attend at the Hilton for business and won. After looking at your beautiful pictures and reading your comments I dove in with both feet yesterday and ordered 10 cuttings from Fla. Colors. I have the perfect spot for them next spring but do you think I should pot them now or wait to the spring? I'm so excited it will be like Christmas.

Jeri, what did you win? LOL! Congratulations on your winnings and your order! Which ones did you get from Florida Colors? I have purchased from them many times and have always been pleased.

I think you should pot them up right away when you get them. I would buy some very well-draining good potting mix and one-gallon black plastic containers and invest in a couple of plant heat mats. If you have a greenhouse, I would put them on the heat mats in the greenhouse. If you don't have a greenhouse, bring them inside and put them on heat mats in the sunniest place in the house. You can put a grow light or HD light over them in the evening for a few hours too. When the cuttings are on the heat mat, the heat will stimulate the rooting process. (Dip them in rooting hormone before planting the bottom two inches in the mix.) You'll want to keep the medium moist, but not wet and not dry.

This is typically a tough season to root cuttings. Spring and summer provide natural heat for rooting, but you are going to have to provide artificial heat instead. The things you want to avoid are big temperature swings and letting the rooting medium get cold. The best temp for rooting is 80 degrees or above, and the soil temp should remain constant. If you have a soil thermometer, you can check your soil temps, but if you have your cuttings on a heat mat, the soil will be the right temp.

Just a note, whenever I root cuttings in the wintertime, I always tend to lose a couple. Heat mats tend to help tremendously, but sometimes, there are cuttings that just want to rot this time of year. Don't despair if that happens because it happens to everyone.

Hi Clare

I won $1600 on a 2 cent slot so i decided to treat myself to 10 new beauties. Well hopefully they will be beauties.

I think I ordered them last night but I haven't got a confirmation yet:
Cancun Pink
Jean Phillips
Kona Hybred
Madame Yvonne
Magnum Opus
2 P. obtusa bahamaensis
P. pudiea bridal bouquet
Pompano
Tomlinson

I'm glad I asked b/c I was gonna just let them calious and wait until the spring to plant them.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Jeri, Luc and Carol don't often get to their email and probably won't send you a confirmation so you may want to call them if you need a confirmation, but I'm sure they got your order. They are going to stop mailing out soon since some of the country is starting to experience freezing temps so you may want to call them anyway just to see if they are still shipping. If they are not shipping, then they will send you your order first thing in the spring. They won't charge your credit card until they ship.

Congrats on a very nice jackpot! Those are very nice cultivars. You won't be disappointed.
