Was just out dumping some pots of orientals to send to a nice dg'r in texas. I cut the stem down some, but left it in for shipping, as it still has the bulb wide open. The thing that is getting me is...there is a whole LOT of roots at the top of the bulb, coming from the stem, Most have bulblets above them. I have never received bulbs with a whole root system above the bulb. I was going to leave these on and tell my friend to just plant right away and dont water. Does this sound right to you guys?
what to do with all these roots on top of the bulb
What about posting this on the Lilies forum? They might know better how to prepare bulbs for trading?....
I think I will do that. the lily formum seemed to be more pictures than info. figured every bulb has to be something, so I started there lol...will head over to lilies. thanks
It will be fine to leave the stem and stem roots on. I usually don't like to force them away from the bulb, but allow it to dry and fall off naturally. This is normal behavior for lilies- most of the feeder roots appear on the stem and gradually go dormant along with the stem.
oooo bummer....those roots are full of bulblettes. will the bulblettes live and is it ok to plant the bulbs when they arrive in texas, just dont water. thanks for your help.
