My rosemary has black spots on it. What is causing this? I do not see any insects, just tiny black spots on the leaves. Any advice?
spots on Rosemary
I noticed that I had something that is perhaps similiar on mine. On the underside of the leaves, little black spots. Mine washed off in water though. Do yours?
If my rosemary gets too much water, the leaves get a little pale and sometimes I see spots on them... not sure if that's what your describing, but check to see if your plant has "wet feet" because rosemary hates that.
Good luck!
Janerx,
Mine had the same issue. I was finally able to find a reasonable watering cycle which it preferred. If you just purchased the Rosemary, it might just be a poor start. I found this to be the case with certain retailers.
I have also had others tell me this could be a symptom of "powdery mildew" but I confess I'm really going out on a limb on this. I'm sure others will shoot me down on it. I believe my lavender and other herbs are suffering from it right now. Just a thought.
My humble advice, try and find the watering cycle it likes and of course good drainage.
I have tried to remove the offending leaves (those with the spots) and the plant has responded and looks fine now and is blooming! The spots did not wash off. I do try to keep to a regular watering schedule with the rosemary, I know it can be fussy. I saw some in Italy this last spring that was absolutely gorgeous. However, Southern Indiana does not mimic the beautiful mediterranean climate very well. We will see if I can keep it alive thru the winter, on a unheated porch, with southern exposure.
Mine has an inch of snow on it right now. Didn't kill it! Little bugger keeps on truck'n.
Rosemary dont like wet feet.Let the soil try out in between watering, and sprinkle the leaves with water in between.Rosemary likes the humitidy, but not to wet.
We live in TX, and I had a hard time to get Rosemary to grow.I watered to much.Since I figured out, how much water, my Rosemary is beatiful and healthy. Good luck
Since I removed the offending leaves, and have tried to keep to a better watering schedule, this rosemary has done very well. I have had it on an enclosed porch this winter, and it looks great and has rewarded me with lovely sky blue blossoms. No more signs of spots on the leaves.
Hooray! Good job. :-)
