Norton just said: "New Network Detected"

I turned my computer on this morning and Norton told me that it detected a 'new network' and where do I want to assign it, ie: home, office, away, etc.

I have just this one computer. It's not part of any network. The computer is a Dell, using Windows 2000 professional.

Can anyone help, or at least tell me that a hacker is or isn't remotely using my computer?
