Well, I went to the USF Fall plant festival and Mom was buying so you know I ended up with many a bromeliad. Here are some pictures of a few...to start with, aechmea orlandiana. I love how it looks like someone threw paint on it.
My latest acquisitions
I bought a tillandsia duratii not in bloom. They had a blooming example and it was so lovely I had to have one. And the curly leaves! This picture seems a bit more purple; I thought the blooms were more of a periwinkle color. http://fcbs.org/cgi-bin/dbman/db.cgi?db=photo&uid=default&photono=1486&ww=on&mh=5&view_records=View+Records
I got a few more, but not everyone was in bloom so I didn't take pictures yet. Some of them are: Aechmea "Foster's Favorite, Aechmea blanchetiana, Aechmea mulfordii, and a few billbergias I can't remember off the top of my head. I'm scratched to bits, but I had a great time! Anyone coming to the round up in Pinellas County next Saturday is going home with a bromeliad!
Looks like a great haul..I have the billbergia pyrm. in a variegated form with white stripes on the leaf edges
I think your "odd ball" is Nidularium scheremetiewii - stunning blue colors on the petals.
So jealous! Nice score mellielong! I am especially fond of the first one. Similar colors to one that Kell and Sue and I keep drooling over at the Conservatory in San Fran http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/129493.html
Oooh! I like that one in San Fran. That is really cool. Funny how it's a different genus and yet so similar. I just knew I had never seen anything quite like that so of course I had to buy it! Dave, the fcbs.org says it's a cultivar of nid. procerum. but that other one you mentioned has very similar blooms. They're all so pretty. I had never seen a nidularium at one of the sales until a few months ago and now I have several, yea!
Speaking of nidulariums...I was having trouble looking one up and now I find out it's been reclassified as a bigeneric! See it here... http://fcbs.org/cgi-bin/dbman/db.cgi?db=photo&uid=default&photono=1286&ww=on&mh=5&view_records=View+Records
Now I have a niduregelia and a neomea! I love the bigeneric names.
Thier gorgous ! Do you plant them in the ground ? I have both right now but thinking of putting more in the ground as they do so well here. You and your Mom sure had fun shopping !
Thanks for sharing all your pretties I love them all :))
