Glad your ok Hope everything in your green house is up right
Carol
Yes, Carol, glad to see you posted after the earthquake. I heard it was a 6.6, and that there was alot of damage on the big island. Fears, too, about tsunami??? Keep us posted as to how you are doing!!!
My thoughts and prays are with you. They said no more after shocks for last 3 hrs.
Jeri
man that is scarry...glad you are ok....i have always wanted to go to hawaii....um....maybe not...lol
Carol, thoughts and prayers are with you. Be safe and God bless. -joanne
OH...we rattled and shook like mad....trees outside looked like they were in a jittery video!!! That was the scariest part...that and the noise!!! It lasted SOOooo long! Not much damage on this side of the island except for some landslides and fallen pictures. Kona, on the West Side really took it hard...the ceilings fell in Safeway and Walmart, highways buckled, houses slipped off of pilings (pillar and post construction)....even up in Kauai...but the epicenter was a few miles off the Kona Airport I heard.
Nothing like living on an alive island....volcanos, lava pouring into the ocean, earthquakes....
Not even a plant fell down in the GH - but there was a lot of giggling that stopped the minute I walked in the door. I think it was lacunosa that told a bad joke!!!
OH...my worst fear was not realized: Our house is built right over a lava tube (one of the biggest on the island) and I have been afraid an earthquake would open it up and the house would fall in. NOPE...dodged the bullet again!!!
:) But I forgot the most important - thank you all for your concern and your wishes!!! It feels great having such good friends!

Happy to see your safe and sound, I was just reading about it on line.
Glad to hear you and your family are safe.

Glad to hear everything and everyone is ok!

Carol,
I forgot you lived in Hawaii. (I'm new here) Take care. I just called my friend in Waimanalo, Oahu. They are ok but have no electric. I'm sure thats the case all over the Islands. I have another friend that works at a hospital in Oahu in the ER. I bet he's real busy from what the news has said.
Keep us posted and stay safe. You just never know what a day will bring.
Tami
Carol, glad to hear you are OK, I thought of you the minute I heard about the earthquake!
There are very strange things here: We are about 120 miles from Kona where the epicenter was and we have electricity and just shook a lot. Oahu is another island about 200 miles away and they have no elec. and damage. The ocean does strange things.
Thanks so much for your good thoughts. They keep me warm!!!
Terra "firma" certainly has her own way of doing things, doesn't she!
Perhaps the island was welcoming you home after a three-week absence? I'd hate to see how she says hello if you've been gone a month!
Glad you're safe!!!
Ann
Carol - your laconosa tells jokes? Hmmmm..........
Carol,
Glad to hear you didn't get much damage in your area. Hearing about the earthquake took me back to the early 80's when I lived on Guam. They call Guam "The Rock" because it's just a big coral rock jutting out of the ocean - I suspect that's exactly what most islands are. Well, when we'd been there about a year, there was a 6.5 earthquake. We lived in a high-rise apartment made out of solid concrete and steel, on the 6th floor. It was early morning and I hadn't been up long, and when it started, I looked out the balcony and could tell the building was "swaying" back and forth. It completely freaked me out as I envisioned all this concrete and steel falling down. Well, it stopped after a minute or so, but I decided then and there that I'll take a tornado any day over an earthquake! At least you have a good chance of a tornado missing you! (My understanding, BTW, is that a 6.6 would be TWICE as strong as a 6.5 - YIKES!)

Good grief....I leave town for a couple of days, and all kinds of things are happening. I too thought of Carol first thing when I heard about the quake on TV. Sooo glad everything is OK there. So bad for the folks on the other side. Lots of prayers said here.
Living here in S. Calif. I am no stranger to these scary things. Fortunately none of the ones I've been through have done much damage here in Long Beach either, but boy all around in neighboring cities there has been LOTS of kaos. It really makes me nervous to think of a huge one coming some day.
Marcy
Carol, So nice to hear you are okay, Just shows us no one is really safe from natural disasters.I will live in fear every hurricane season from now on!
Dianne
SO GLAD you are ok, just watched the CNN video online and ran over here to check on you! Whew!
It's much the same living in the SFO bay area. We rumble all the time, bot not generally 6.6! Glad you and the hoya gigglers are well!
Wow, Carol, I'm so glad you're okay! And all of your plants!! I had company all weekend and didn't hear about the quake until I got to work this morning, and yes, the first person I thought of was you. I guess it follows that you're the only person I know in Hawaii!! Very happy all is okay. Keep a muzzle on that Lacunosa, eh!
Christine
Carol, Geesh I didn't even know if you were home for sure. O.K. I'm a little slow.... Glad you are safe and there was no damage. On a lighter note, how was your trip, what did you do, show and tell time, where's the pictures?
Was gone this weekend. Didn't even realize this happened! I'm so glad you and your family (including your hoya family) are OK. Now I'm going to Google "lava tube" because I have no idea what that is, but it doesn't sound good.
Take care.
I just heard about this on the radio this AM and immediately thought of you, Carol.
Glad to hear you're safe and sound.
Sorry to hear of the other damage, however.
And hope that your 'lava tube' is left alone! How scary!
Here is a partial view from my room at Anna's. She and her husband had a small apt. built on the top floor so that when they needed care they could let out the bottom part of the house. Her husband died 2 years ago and she is still young and vibrant at 83 so the upstairs apt. is for guests. Her cat, Mischief, will only drink from a running tap!!! The water in front is Welcome Bay, then there is the town of Mount Maunganui and the mountain in the background and then the Pacific Ocean. Cool, eh?
Great photos and beautiful views! God bless, -joanne
BEAUTIFUL WOMEN and beautiful geography (p.s. that's my kind of cat)!! I am so glad you had fun.
After that quake, I bet you were ready to pack up and head back to NZ !! When I heard about the quake the first thing I thought of was you and hoped you were safe.
I am glad you made it through with only some shaking going on. Times like this, it makes you take time to count your blessings, refocus on what is important in your life, and appreciate the stability that your life has. Mother nature has a way of humbling us. So glad you are safe.
Karen
Well there you are in the flesh! I too am so glad you are ok and looking great I might add.

Last night we had a storm of Biblical proportions: 15" of rain in 5 hours...it was like living under a firehose...thunder and lightening you would not believe (our neighbor received a strike on his PickUp and the truck was fried). We couldn't hear eachother in bed because of the noise of the rain. Thelma and Louise (100 lb Labradors) are terified of elec. storms so we keep them in the house when they happen. Both of them jumped in bed when the worst part hovered over us. The washout on our roads was about 10,000$ worth of materials...and 2 weeks on the tractor for Bob to put it back together again. Trees were knocked down.
Hoyas suffered NADA!!! The rain was so heavy allof the plants in the GREENHOUSE were watered thru the ventilation openings!!! Some of the Eriostemmas up the trees were squashed down to the base...but they will recover nicely!
Experiencing the awesome powers of Mother Nature recently...other concerns simply pale in comparison!!! Even politics seem insignificant...personal stuff disappears...and if DH hasn't done the dishes....who cares? This is an island with a life...a personality...AND an attitude!!!
Thanks for your concerns....it makes me feel really loved!!!
Carol
Carol,
Wow, Sounds like you had a night of it. Its strange how the events of one day can change your outlook on the not so big things. Things that seem big are gone in a flash when the life and death things come up. Take care. I hope you get things cleaned up soon and things go smooth for awaile.
Tami in Texas (near where it flooded in Houston yesterday)
Isn't that the truth. Sometimes we get so caught up in the little things but, when faced with a major event, it brings us back to what's most important. Tami....also hope you are ok.....we got 6'' of rain. Enough to flood my garden and backyard, but no real damage.
:) Kim
Holy cow, Carol, glad you guys are ok!
geez and here i am trying to get the leaves raked out of my yard....big deal huh?!...i am so glad everyone is doing ok...despite everything they are encountering...lol...makes one thankful for just a samo samo day...
