Frost Came: A report on brug survival

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

Well we had some colder weather predicted for this week and they weren't kidding. Dropping to forty one night and one day where it never got out of the 40's was the first part. I got cuttings but left the potted brugs outside. Supernova took a hit when the weather dipped the first time.. DIdn't like it a bit

Then the week continues.. got a bit colder but the other brugs were doing ok.. This morning we had frost for the first time and a couple more brugs decided this wasn't tropical enough for them.

These are Pink Sauv seedlings that Kaufmann sent me a few years back.. you can see that one offshoot didn't shrivel..I found that interesting

SO now for the brugs which have not as yet bitten the dust.. first of all we have Rosamonde.. my dear Rosamonde, who refuses to ever die..She is the only one I got planted this year and so far she isn't too upset with the weather

And next we have two that are still potted.. Isabella to the right and a yellow cutting also sent to me by Kauffmann that someone she knew had hybridized. My only yellow.. So far so good.. weather has been nippy.. frosty.. but they are still there

OK.. this mornign I noticed that Rosamonde's leaves are shriveled. but Isabella and the yellow are hanging in there..I didn't look at Forever Mohr. And I left my camera at a friend's house last night so no updates yet :(

Are you going to leave the pots out? Glad you got your cuttings in time.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh dear, I always hate watching slow deaths. You have me feeling so sorry for your brugs, Laura. Whenever I decided it is time to die and I stop watering them, when they really start to droop I give in and water them. Then I send out killer Tom who loves to cut them up and toss them in the greens can.

Rosamond for me would get the frosted leaves but her branches would survive. She is a tough brug!

When will you get snow? BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I feel sorry for you too. LOL

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Laura I certainly understand how you feel, all the ones I did not get dug up have died, three super cold nights in a row was too much for them, this is definatly too early for such cold temps, it was 32 Friday morning.

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

So far so good here. I did get the ones dug up that I wanted to save and they are in the GH. But I still have 4 out in the ground that still has blooms on. My DH said there was frost on the pumpkin Thursday morning, but if there was it must not have been enough to do any damage. The last three days has been nasty we have had some drizzle and it is staying in the low 60's to upper 50's. At night in the 40's. I'm not ready for spring yet but neither am I ready for winter.

Die mites, die is right Jazz.
that cracked me up. Thanks for the laugh.
Mine have had frost, but they're very close to house everyone seems to do ok.
The only thing I noticed my SuperNova's blooms turned to a tanish shade,
old as well as new blooms did this color change overnight.

HI guys. Most of the brugs are showing signs of the cold now. Isabella's leaves are withered..Forever Mohr still has some good leaves as does the yellow. Rosamonde's leaves are history also.
Kell.. the only reason I am letting them go is that I have an insanely busy schedule right now. I simply don't have time to cut them down. I don't know when snow will come. All I know is that I am not ready..:(
Stownes, I am debating about the pots..I don't want them to break but had an odd thought of seeing if any of them would make it through the winter. Planning on mulching Rosamonde to see if she comes back
