Recently moved to SC------this is one of several shrubs I inherited. Can anyone name it. Think the photo may be upside down !!

That appears to be Confederate Rose, Hibiscus Mutabilis. They can produce single & double blooms.

They are hardly and it looks like you have a mature one. If you wish to start over again with it you can cut it back to the ground this winter and next spring it will put out all new growth.

I wonder why it was named "Confederate Rose".
.....The common name probably stems from the plant's use in the South and the close resemblance of its flowers to fluffy, old-fashioned garden roses.

LOL, unpruned and upside down double ROS. The leaves on a Confederate Rose are larger and a different color. You can whack that one back pretty hard and you will have a nice blooming shrub next summer.

when i worked at the nursery you wouldnt believe the confusion over these two hibscuses.
