Propegating Roses

Stedman, NC

I am a new gardener and I have these beautiful Rose bushes that I was told were "Jackson Perkins" roses. Because of the warmer than usual fall we have had lately in North Carolina, my roses have a lot of new growth on them. It is getting time to prune them back ( I think) for the winter and I hate to prune back all that new growth. Is there a way to prune back my roses and use that new growth to create new plants? Also, when I asked the lady who sold me the bushes, how much to prune them back, her answer was " As much as they can stand". What is that supposed to mean? Like I said, I am a true novice and would like some expert advice on this subject. Thank You.

I don't know much. I think roses are all pruned in March. Why don't you try the Rose forum, if you haven't already?
