Bluebonnets are supposed to be planted in September, usually before the 15th. They will form rosettes before the first cold snap. The foxglove and hibiscus probably need to be planted in the spring. Not sure about the others.

Spanish foxglove you can winter sow now and let them come up in spring--TX star hibiscus, I do either outside in pots now and protect or 4 weeks before last frost indoors under lights--sweet peas I do on Martin Luther King day or else in the fall (but you take your chances in the fall--sweet peas can handle frost when young plants but not when larger).

Mitch,

With regards to the sweet pea seeds I gave you they are annuals. And although they are heat tolerant they still need to be planted very early. Many people in our area plant sweet peas around Christmas. I know that sounds crazy but they can take and like cold for germination.
The Spanish Foxgloves will probably need some experimentation in our area. Unlike regular Foxglove these originate from a Mediterranean climate. This means they are used to very dry warm summers. My guess is early spring planting.

Siggy, While you are talking seed, I took one of your Cupid seed pods. Can you tell me what plant I am looking at? Also when I should plant the seeds on it.

They are sweet peas too - white and red or pink I think

Thanks Siggy - I like to look up on here and ask look up in books and talk it up to find out for sure... never hurts to ask one more time.

They are pink and white. I planted mine around New Years but many people plant them around Christmas.

Siggy - do you get a lot of seeds from them... I have heard they have great seeds but have not gone over there yet to see what trouble I can get into...

BTW - the seeds in the paper with the leaves have a little seedling now... so soon we will know what they are!

Mitch,

I've had great experiences with them.

If I should have planted my BBonnets in Sept, do I have to wait til next yr?
I was given a BUNCH @ the spring CSRU, & just didn't know when to plant. How do I plant them when I do?
All help, graciously appreciated!
:~)

I tried to go ahead now...

For what it's worth, bluebonnet --Lupinus texensis -- seeds I scattered in the garden this past January sprouted and bloomed this past spring. Bluebonnet seedlings obtained from a local nursery and planted in April bloomed (individually without sequence) from late July until the present (yes, I have bluebonnets blooming in October!).
